A monk, or friar, is a man who belongs to one of the monastic orders in the Church, such as Basilians, Benedictines, Cistercians and Carthusians.
A monk can be a religious brother or an priest. Both take vows of celibacy, poverty, and obedience but only priests are ordained.
If the monk is an ordained priest then he can celebrate a Mass.
Monks can have many different jobs in a monastery.
With love in Christ.

Gee, that IS an interesting question! I believe monks are still cloistered, that is, they don't leave the confines of the monastery. So, I think that they're job is to pray for the world, both in words and in action with their sacrifices. I may have to look this up, now!
Wikipedia has a long entry on monks, but they only separate them into Christian and non-Christian monks, though I don't know if any Protestant denominations has monks, so maybe all Christian monks are Catholics. Anyway, they explain about the movement.

Monks are used as slaves to work for the church. They do all sorts of things for the church. Some even make wine and sell them to make money so the church can survive.
In the James bond movie they even make weapons to fight terrorism but they are just movies.
