Actually I think Free Love was a concept that started in the Scandanavian countries(Sweden) and took hold in America in the 60's. Sweden was one of the first countries to shrug off the shackles of religion that controls everyone and let it's people to be free, to decide if, or if not, they people were ready to embrace their natural design rather than the ancients who until thoise days ruled everything. By the way the ancients were long since dead.

I suppose back in the Hippy days when the worst problems about sex were solved with a penicillin injection. Free love nowadays can be like playing Russian Rulet.

During the 1960s people threw convention to the wind, engaging in sex without commitment, without regrets, given freely. That, and sharing material possessions, was one of the most popular and basic ideals of the 'hippie' philosophy.
("Make Love Not War" was the slogan of the decade)

Sexuality unconnected to commitment.
As a philosophic stance, prior to the hippy movement it was advocated during the Romantic movement in the 18th-19th century (the generation of Byron, Shelley and that right before them)

Yes. Traditionally, it means sex without commitments. It started at the beginning of time, but was popularized in the 60s by the hippy movement.

Set your Wayback Machine to the 1960's Hippie Movement. It was an experiment in loving one's neighbor... literally.
