I have a GED and only 3 college hours. To join the Air Force the website said I needed 15 college hours. Do any of you know someone with just a GED that got in. Please no ask your recruiter , rude, or obvious comments please.

The reason I do not want you to say "ask your recruiter" is because its 1 in the morning and I'm going to do that when I can actually call.

Ok I will admit it I want to join the Air Force because I think I personally would enjoy it more. I know with any branch deployment is possible but I do not want to deploy for 12-15 months and thats why I do not want to join the Army. My husband was in it and I would want to but its the long deployment that bothers me. Those whove answered add detail at anytime because I'm still reading all answers.

I can't remember my line scores I took the asvab in my junior year of high school. I do remember getting a 64 or 67 all together score. I'm pretty sure I could do better this time with an added year of high school education. I quit 6 weeks before graduation started home schooling but could not teach my self Chem thats why I have a GED.

Even with the 15 hours you are not likely to join the USAF with a GED. They simply have too many applicants and personnel and are in the process of kicking out 40,000 people. I was not allowed to reinlist because of this. Your best bet would be the Army with a GED.

If you only have 3 hours you need to enroll in 12 more hours. You will not be able to get a contract with the AF until you have completed 31 days of college showing that you will be receiving the 12 hours after that semester. I just got done being a Navy recruiter last month. They will set you up with a contract so that you will be able to leave after you finish your classes. Just make sure that the classes you take are over 100 Etc: Math 101, English 101. You can even take on-line classes.

I just answered your question about the Air Force--now I will answer this one. PLEASE take the time to get the needed education for a chance to be accepted into the Air Force. There are not waivers because there is NO shortage at this time. A waiver for education might place you as a cook or some low job that you may not like. Even though cooks are important--and maybe you would like to be a cook---a proper education will ensure a pretty interesting job. I had college, so music and fire fighting was NOT given to me--they needed educated people to take care of the aircraft. There are computers and all sorts of highly specialized jobs today--I probably wouldn't have gotten flight if I was in today--you really have to have TOP grades to be part of a crew. I didn't do that well in school. So you need to wait and get some education under your belt--it won't take long. You will be happier in the long run.

Currently no this is not waiverable.
I do know a cop here that has a GED but he had the 15 hours req'd to get in. If you want to join the Air Force get the college hours or (I don't know if you can) get your high school diploma.
We are cutting back on the amount of people allowed to join but there are still some jobs that are "undermanned"

No you need more college classes if you really want to go in the Air Force go back to school for a semester or 2 and than talk to a recruiter, right now the Air Force is cutting jobs and they do not "need" someone with just a GED.

I have never heard of the rule that you need 15 college hours to join, so unless thats a new rule then maybe you misunderstood what you read. Usually if you come in with x amt of college hours you get higher rank but college isn't required otherwise the 18 year olds straight out of high school couldnt join and trust me there are plenty of people who go to basic right after their high school graduation. And I worked with a guy who came in and all he had was a GED and he was a really smart guy, so for the guy who said they are selective, its true they are overmanned and being selective but a GED is not a disqualifier.

The Military with waive just about anything if you have a skill they want. The Airforce is an excellent choice. I do not currently think any branch of service would DQ you in a time of war when recruitment is at an all time low. I'm Prior Army and currently Active duty CG. It is a great service to be in too...(another option for you to consider).
At one time the AF did not want prior service members, however that was pre 9-11.
Currently the Army has waived age, school and some past minor law infractions. The Navy too. The primary items the service wont waive are criminal records of a sexual matter. Drug convictions. They will waive High school, minor debt problems (to an extent) Tattoos to an extent. Single parents if thier is an established child care provider.
Good luck. I'm sure if you are persistant enough you'll get in.

Even the Marine Corps 99% of the time will not take you with a GED. They, too, require 15 college credit hours combined with a GED.

Yeah unfortunately the guy above me is right. The Air Force has such low recruiting demands that their monthly quota is zero. Even if they were willing to waive the credit requirement, it could take you up to a year to actually enlist because so many people want to join.

The air force are very picky and do not need allot of people. Why the AF any way? If you want to be around aircraft the army has more than the AF any way. What were your line scores on the test? That has more to do with you getting in and doing the JOB you want.
