I just got a new DVD player/ home theater system and can't figure out whether it plays HD-DVDs. It has the HDMI ports and all the the HD stuff to connect to my TV. It just doesn't say anywhere that it is a HD-DVD player or that it supports HD DVDs. I assume that it would say something about it's capabilities in that area, but I just can't figure it out. It is a Phillips HTS3544 just in case you know something about model numbers and such.

If it is a DVD player, it will not play HD-DVD's. It will upconvert regular dvd's to high -definition thou (thats if your tv is high-def. Sorry. But HD_DVD players will play it though. they are a lot more expensive than dvd players.

Your home theater system consists of a dvd player Philips HTS3544 that is called a upconverter meaning it will play only standard dvd disc but wil increase the resolution of the image to 1080i if you have a high definition television and connecting to it by using a HDMI cable.. However the dvd player is not a high definition or HD-DVD. It can only play standard discs.

In order to play HD-DVD discs you will need to buy a HD-DVD player made by Toshiba and it has to have the words HD-DVD on the DVD player.
