Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder which causes people to have a horrible body image...they look in the mirror and think they are obese even if they are skin and bones. They usually have no sense of control in their life, so when it comes to their eating and exercising habits, they exert their control by obsessively exercising, starving, abusing laxatives, etc. They also get obsessed about weight related information, like nutrition facts of foods (calorie counts) and height/weight charts, clothing sizes, etc. Any or all of these may indicate that something is wrong. It is an addictive sort of problem. These people tend to be pretty secretive about food and their rituals.
Anorexia bulimia, on the other hand, may have some of the same symptoms emotionally but the behavior is usually to eat insane amounts of food and then throw it all up before it is digested. Some warning signs: You always see them eating, but they excuse themselves (to puke) right after. OR sudden tooth decay. OR teeth marks on the back of the fingers that develop into scars or scrapes...from scraping when they gag themselves.
Both problems can be deadly, and some other things that often happen: physical exhaustion, drug addiction (laxatives, sometimes uppers like cocaine which is an appetite suppressant), and girls will reverse their own puberty (breasts, periods disappear). Can cause heart, liver, kidney problems, brain damage...in addition to the complications of any drug use.
Some people have both, and I guess the way it works is that they cycle through rounds of starvation and binge eating.
It's not a logical problem and often times people with eating disorders have brainwashed themselves to believe what they tell you about themselves, their bodies, their "obesity". They aren't stupid but they aren't thinking clearly and often need an intervention to get it together. Often people coming out of eating disorders consider themselves in recovery just like other addicts do.
Their addiction is the sense of control they get from doing what they do...but the ironic thing is that eventually they lose control of that and must do it despite the damage they do to their body.

That's when someone doesn't eat in order to lose weight. They force the body to feed off of its fat sources. It's more of a mental thing, when the person has a distorted self image. It needs specialist attention, cus after a while the body doesn't know how to digest food anymore. The body starts to feed off the muscle mass when it runs out of fat. AKA eventually it gets to the heart and you die. Sorry to be harsh but that's just the straight up facts. Even if you do recover from it, if you have done it for a while before that it will screw up the rest of your life. You're bone density will be horrible, and you will have osteoporosis very soon in life. You will also have a pretty short life span.

STOP CALLING IT ANEREXIA!! It's anorexia.
Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes an eating disorder characterized by low body weight and body image distortion with an obsessive fear of gaining weight. Individuals with anorexia often control body weight by voluntary starvation, purging, vomiting, excessive exercise, or other weight control measures, such as diet pills or diuretic drugs. It primarily affects adolescent females, however approximately 10% of people with the diagnosis are male. Anorexia nervosa is a complex condition, involving psychological, neurobiological, and sociological components.

anorexia is a mental disorder...
it is when you have a distorted body image
this can be caused by a imbalance in your brain,
physical or verbal harassement,
bullying, the media or even the influence of peers...
it is every girls dream to be skinny. to be 'beautiful'.
and this is what keeps the illness alive.
the desire. the urge. the longing to be beautiful.
and in Western society, and societies aroudn the globe...
skinny is the new beautiful.
it affects boys and girls; men and women (of all ages)
it makes them not only starve the body, but work it to the bone- exercising to the max.
it can cause low bone density, heart failure and brian damage

ok first of all there is a difference in the answers you are getting.
ANEREXIA: is were you go long periods of time without eating anything usually caused by depresion or heavy self denial of your body image (thinking your fat).
BOLEMIA:is where you eat normally but you make your self throw up right after eating, meaning you want to eat and taste the food but you dont want the after effects of gaining weight. also most commonly caused by depresion.

Anorexia is an eating disorder in which people are obsessed with being too fat so they starve themselves, exercise constantly, and obsess over how many calories they eat a day. It can be very serious, and many people have died from it.

Actually, it's not when you're extremely skinny. The definition of anorexia nervosa is:
An eating disorder primarily affecting adolescent girls and young women, characterized by pathological fear of becoming fat, distorted body image, excessive dieting, and emaciation.
