How long is he going to be there. If it's less than a year or so I wouldn't bother. If they aren't close to him or anything. It's not like it's their dad. If he's going to be in there for years, and you want your children to be able to know a little about him, I really don't think it would hurt anything to take them to see him. They are old enough to understand where he is and why he's there, talk to them about the situation if you plan to take them there. Find out what visitations at the place he's being held at are like. Many facilities have pretty nice arrangements for visiting family members (as far as could be expected).

I am pretty open abt everything with my kids I dont shelter them from too much its good for them to learn abt life at an early age. You know they are prolly having some wrong ideas abt where their uncle is and what jail is like so at least this way u will be able to give them the right idea. I am pretty honest and open abt things with my kids. Obviously I am not going to let my kids sit and watch people get into a fight or something but that is unlikely to happen during visitations. I dont see the harm of visting ur brother in jail as long as they completely understand why he is there and what exactly a jail place is. It would be a good lesson for them i think. anything u teach them is best to teach them while they are young it has the biggest impact. I went to vist my moms boyfriend in jail when I was a kid I remember it clearly even tho i was only 5 but I was not scared or tramatized but all kids are different if you have any kids that scare easily then u prolly shouldnt take them.

No. A child should never go to a jail to visit anyone.

hmm, thats a toughie. in elementary school we had to visit a jail on a field trip and saw people in there, and it didn't leave any emotional scars or anything. i think it would be okay, since they are visiting their uncle, but you may want to ask and see how they feel about it and if they could handle it.

only you can make this decision. ask them if they want to go first. explain to them what jail will be like and be honest with all of their questions. remind them that jail is not a fun place and they can learn from their uncle's choices.

No, they're too young. Ask the 11 year old if he wants to go and if he does, take him. None of the other ones are old enough, they'd be scared.

Yes, I'm sure he would like to see them, and it's a good way to scare them into never wanting to go there. That place is scary. It's safe though. I went to see my stepdad many times when he was in prison.

If they are not HIS children then they have no business visiting him in jail.

Why not? It'll scare the living daylights out of them so they'll see what it's like in prison and think twice about doing things like stealing on a dare or something like that.
