Praise the Lord that you wish to return to a right relationship with Him and restore the open fellowship with Him! We all need His Word to help us know Him better, amen?
I would strongly suggest following the same pattern that the Billy Graham Evangelical Association recommends for new Christians: Read the whole book of John first. That book in just the first 15 verses of Chapter one, describes Jesus and sets you off on your journey of growing to know Him better. Then, read Acts. Then, James, and 1 Corinthians, then go back, start at Matthew, and read the entire New Testament...after that, go to the Old Testament and read your Bible through, front to back.
I'd highly recommend that you join a small group study, such as your church's Bible study, so that you can begin to develop and get answers to the questions that will undoubtedly come into your mind as you "start over again" with the Bible.
Remember, it's not just "reading." It's God's love letters to you, and that Bible and your prayer time, are how He lets you get to know Him better. Be SURE to pray before you read, for Him to reveal Himself to you and teach you what HE has to give you that day...if you get confused, get definition and clarity through prayer, and WISE COUNSEL of a PASTOR, not people who may not know how to advise you.
Bless you for your desire to return to the Father's voice in print! Now..go read that Bible, and share that Good News inside it! So many nowadays do not believe...but then, God says that they who don't believe won't understand the Bible because only HE reveals its truths by indwelling us! So it's important that as we read and grow, we share the amazing, remarkable and miraculous revelation of who God truly is, with others, and let them know that Jesus Christ is ready and wanting to meet them NOW, right where they are, without price, cost, or conditions, and make them new, give them a whole new chance, a new beginning, a "do-over", and an entry into eternity with Him.
Can you THINK of a better thing to share??? ME EITHER!
God be with you on your exciting journey!
PS: I can help you with Bible questions a lot of the time, just post your questions on here and I'll see them, also gaillee has vast Scripture knowledge and can be of help. I know a lot of us are going to be "rooting for you" through prayer and encouragement, should you need it!

It's a pleasure too share the beautiful things form the Gospel and the many things that God has done for me! Theres a really good book thats called "Steps too Christ". I personally like to read the bible in NIV(New International Version). Here's a verse that I love & and i would like too share with you....Romans 12: 1-2....(by the way this is one of my favorites books in the Bible)
I'll pray the Lord may pour out many blessings on to you and the ones you love, may nothing take away from you the desire to seek for the one who gave you life.

Start at the new testament and read.but, remember Rome wasn't built in a day, therefore reading the Bible daily helps since it's a daily walk with Christ. Sitting in a garage doesn't make you a car, sitting in a church doesn't guarantee your Salvation, but you are not suppose to forsake the fellowship, keep the sabbath holy. No human is an island in the walk with Christ. We need each other, therefore it means someone is in need of you...be it your church friendship, advice or just your simple smile

As a refresher (since you've been in church before)re-read the book of John or Matthew. Then, to help your current walk, read Acts. It tells how the early believers walked. Note Acts 2:42 - they "persevered" in 4 important things. The word persevered means that they "stuck to it" although it is hard. And it is by nature hard - there is an enemy around whose sole intention is to make you fail - so persevere.
Also, read a Psalm to help you pray and for daily increase of wisdom, read the Proverbs (one a day all month)
Persevere... it's a good verb.

A good place to start would be in the book of John. Then continue on to the Acts, and right on through the New Testament. It will take awhile to read it all, but if you've been away for awhile it's a good idea to "take a refresher course."
If you're going to choose to walk such an important path as the Christian Walk isn't it a good idea to know first hand what God requires of you? After all, isn't your objective to please God? So.. you need to know what He tells us to do in order to please Him; to follow His path.
Blessings on you.

Hebrews is good,it is about faith. Do a study on love or prayer or anything you need. Get a good study Bible if you can. The rainbow bible is a good one to do subject studies such as studying love or studying faith. But you don't need that to do it. you can look up all the verses on love with the concordance and write them down in a journal. There are many ministries on line that have their broadcasts on every day and you can watch or listen on line.

Butterfly, many have fallen away and yet, that tiny voice, which speaks to our hearts, woos us back! That is our Savior's voice and our soul yearns for it's Creator's presence! I am so happy for you and I rejoice in your decison!
One of my favorite Books, of the Bible, is Daniel. It is "meaty" but, you will see a young man who recognizes the ONE true GOD! This boy has become a captive and yet, refuses to break God's laws! Daniel is tried, many times and yet, he never gave up! He grows to be a man and God places favor in Kings hearts, for Daniel. All the while, Daniel grew into one of the greatest prophets! It shows how easy it is to go with the world but, to stay in God's will, we must be like Daniel! Stand steadfast, firmly planted in our faith, in God!
Another great book is Ruth! This is a wonderful account of true friendship and God's provisions. This Book mirrors what each of us go through, in our own lives! It also, introduces an example of the "redeemer." Boaz, is a "kinsman" redeemer. It was tradition and you will read about this and it will bless you to see the mighty works of God and His Word!
Then, you have the Psalms....soothing to the soul; Proverbs: all the Gospels......just read and pray! Ask God to reveal truths as you read His word! I too, will pray for your spiritual journey back, to the One who redeemed you and me! May God bless you with His wisdom and may you always know that He is with you always!
God Bless YOU,
gail
