Oh please these people are jerks. I've owned poodles since '76. I don't keep them all foo-foo, just puppy cut. But I trim their whiskers @ every 6 weeks, they don't feel it at all, not even a flinch and they don not act any different after ! It is not cruel, if you own a shedding breed it's not needed. Hope you didn't mean pulling them out !!

Cut off a dog's whiskers? Absolutely NOTHING will happen.
It's common practice for groomers to cut whiskers off ... makes the face look clean and neat. My dog looks fabulous when he's just back from the groomer with a fresh shave!

"You can cut a dog whiskers but you CAN NOT cut a cats whiskers. Has anyone ever seen a show poodle? Their faces are clean shaven. As a groomer of 15+ years there is NO way you can weave in and out of whiskers while cutting the hair on the face. Dogs do not need their tails either as cats DO!"

Nothing at all happens. Show dogs in some breeds get their whiskers shaved off to make them look 'cleaner' and they don't die, and they don't have any problems with their senses or balance or anything else. Cats shouldn't have their whiskers shaved, but dogs, it doesn't matter.

I don't think that you should cut them off. One of my dogs had to wear a muzzle several hours a day for a few years because of a problem with her fighting with the other dog. Some of her whiskers have broken and, now that the other dog has passed and she doesn't have to wear it anymore, they are slowly growing back. I believe that it may mess with their equilibrium though because she knocks her head into things sometimes.
Let me add, before someone thinks there was some cruelty involved, that the reason that we opted for a muzzle while the dogs were together is because, the one that was muzzled, has a lot of problems (some nervous issues) and nobody would take her. The only other option would have been to put her to sleep and this was out of the question. She's the most loving animal but could do damage when she fought with the older dog so we had to do something. Now that the older one has passed away, she only wears her muzzle to the vet as the vet likes her fingers.

Whiskers are there for a reason and they generally lie backwards virtually flat against the dogs muzzle so are not all that visable or in the way- why on earth would you cut them off?
No the dog wont die but their whiskers are important to their ability to sense things around them.
Personally I would consider it an act of cruelty, how would like somwone to come along and shave your head against or something.

I used to trim my old dogs whiskers because they'd get so long. They just grow back.
