SO one time this summer, the fish beat me pretty bad...

It was a hot summer day and I was out fishing with my mate, who thinks I am ruthless... she only thinks this because for some odd reason I would always hook the fish and they would bleed really bad... only seemed to happen when she was around... anyhow, I landed a 5 pound Pike and I brought him in and was showing my friend that this time, he wasn't bleeding as bad as some of the other ones I had brought in. I brought him close to shore and went down to take the hook out of his mouth.. This time however, the hook was stuck a little further down in his stomach and there was another one in his jaw... I was using a STORM pike replica lure.. it has two sets of three hooks and one single hook on the top... anyhow, I managed to get the one out of his tummy no problem but I just couldn't seem to get a grasp on the one in his jaw.. I had my fingers down near the corner of his mouth, and this is where I found the least amount of teeth and the best grip.... I managed to get the hook out and he closed his jaw.. as he closed his jaw, my thumb slipped further into his mouth and he pierced my thumb.. It was a gusher and stung like an SOB too.... I cleaned and cleaned my thumb as soon as I released the fish back into the water and I thought my finger would be fine.... hahaha was I ever wrong.. in two weeks the tip of my thumb was black and very infected... I was not impressed but my mate thought this was the funniest thing she had ever seen... She referred to it as the fish that fought back!! My finger eventually healed after shedding many layers of dead skin... to top it off, a month later, the same thing happened again.. with the same darn finger too!!!

I have also broken a rod before and lost several lures!!! Yet I keep going back for more..... can't keep this girl away from the water!!

so funny you ask. My husband and I were sturgeon fishing off a dock and it started to rain so we went to sit in the car and watch the poles. I asked him if it was safe to leave the pole just sitting there without being in a pole holder. he said ya, that's how he fishes all the time and what do ya know.... he got a bite! he jumped out of the car and slipped and fell right on his butt. went to grab the pole but missed it by inches. I was laughing so hard until he informed me that the pole setup he lost was over 200.00! We continued to fish with just my pole and he was on his last cast and felt a snag.... he was getting frustrated but then realized he had snagged his pole. when he reeled in closer we realized the fish was still on it! We ended up getting his pole back and a nice 52" sturgeon! he always uses a pole holder now LOL.

Yes, one time i set the pole down to grab a soda and unluckily the fish decided to take the bait and the pole at the same time so i ended up losing that pole.

wow, im glad to say that the closest i ever had to a fish "winning" was when i was fishing a river and decides to jam my pole between some random rocks, even after that the fish still almost took the pole. unfortunatly he got away.

I had a huge striped bass yank my fishing pole out of the sandspike and dragged it, forever lost, into the ocean.

Lost a brand new pole through a hole in the ice last year. I wasn't pleased with the friend who said he would watch it while I checked the tip-ups.

Tangled with a large steelhead on the Salmon river in NY,
it was about 20 degrees outside, water temp about 34.

Hooked my fish at the tail end of a pool, he proceeded to tear downstream, I am now into my backing and not able to turn him. Soooooooo, I decided to chase, and immediately slipped and fell into the icy water. End of fish, end of day,
end of story.

Yep, many times i have come home baitless and had no fish to show for it.

Just yesterday several large tilapia and snappin' turtles shredded the tip of my brand new crappie pole.

i cant say the fish has ever snapped my rod, the only time i snapped one was when i was fly fishing with a 1wt rod, for small brook trout and the tippet got caught around a tree and on the back cast instead of it just bending out i managed to snap off the tip section.
