He should have cooperated and it wouldn't have happened. Most perople tasered are unarmed, if they were armed they probably would have been shot by the real thing.

Unfortunately; there will always be Police Officers who make bad decisions.
I am an ex cop and I have always said that policing is an occupation of extremes; I have met the greatest human beings I have ever met and I have also met people that were wearing the uniform who did not qualify as human beings.
I believe it is impossible to determine hat happened with such little explanation. There should be an honest investigation and let the evidence speak; as CSI's Gill Grissom might say.
As for the Tazer itself; I still support the device. It is not pleasant (I have been tazered) and it is LESS than lethal; meaning those with health issues could die and a lot of times the folks you deal with in the streets are not the healthiest, the alternative to resistance is beating the crap out of someone. I know that law enforcement and the prosecutors have crafted many euphemisms for it, bit when someone resists the solution is to beat the crap out of them.
The Tazer is a better alternative. Until Capt Kirk brings us the phaser and we can set it on stun, the Tazer is the bets we have.

If the call came over the radio for a man with a gun and he wouldn't cooperate with the police, how was it wrong for him to get zapped. I would have done the same thing. I feel bad for his wife but the man was an idiot!

It was a merry Christmas for those threatened by this man. He was disruptive and threatening others in the mall and did tell people he had a gun and would shoot them. The man did not just "fit the description", he was in fact the offender.
The police arrived, attempted to get this clown out of the mall. He resisted, threatened the officers, put his hand in his pocket, and was tasered. That the wife also got hit was unfortunate but accidental.
The use of force was appropriate, from what I have read of the incident. There have been several fatal mall shootings this year. Would you have the cops not do anything in this case?
The man was given the chance to comply. He did not. He represented a clear and present danger to all the other people in that mall.
They can file all the lawsuits they want, after he gets out of jail. They won't win.

WELL?
IF THE POLICE ASK YOU WHO YOU ARE AND YOU WANT TO BE IGNORANT?
FACTS:
HE FIT THE DESCRIPTION OF A MAN WITH A GUN? A MALL SHOOTING HAD JUST TAKEN PLACE 3 WEEKS AGO REMEMBER THAT?
IF YOU WERE THE POLICE (WERE)?
1) YOU ARE ARMED WITH THE INFORMATION PROVIDED.(MAN WITH A GUN-???)
2) YOU STOP A SUSPECT, THIS PERSON FITS THE DESCRIPTION.
3) YOU TRIED TO GET INFORMATION?
4) THE SUSPECT REFUSES TO COOPERATE?
NOW, HONESTLY, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE IN THIS SITUATION?
(A CROWDED MALL, AFTER CHRISTMAS RETURNS (MORE THEN ENOUGH PEOPLE TO SHOOT RANDOMLY?)
HAVE THERE NOT BEEN PRIOR SHOOTINGS IN MALLS ALL OVER USA?
OH PARDON ME, I FORGOT YOUR NOT POLICE ARE YOU? YOU DO NOT THINK LIKE WE DO?

"The police sergeant says officers tried to get information from him first, but the man refused to cooperate."
REFUSED TO COOPERATE
Even in cases of mistaken identity, all you have to do is furnish an ID and you can be on your marry way.
I am sorry for his pain, but when a man who has said he has a gun is refusing to cooperate with me he is going down.
Innocent? Latest reports I read say he was in fact the offender and did claim to have a gun.
Well we could go back to the mid 70's and such and just beat him with a PR 24 until he is unconscious.

were over looking the key part. he failed to co-operate. hello its the police. not joe schmoe down the street. when the police asks you to do something you stop whatever your doing and follow there lawful order. so long as there not asking you to do something completely out of the ordinary you do it . that idiot deserved to get tased for trying to show off infront of his family and the idiot that posted this is as stupid as that guy. just dying to find something to make cops look bad. just remember the day you just got robbed at gun point or the day your dying in a car accident the same people you talk so bad about are the same ones who you are going to call and theyre are the ones who will help you!!!
and if one probe hit his wife and one hit him then nothing happened you need both probes to mke contact in order to feel anything because if not there is no arc. so file a law suit for WHAT!
