All my life I have been alergic to fruits and vegetable (most of them anyway it seems) Primarily banannas, apples, oranges, salad, grapes, tomatoes carrots and the like. However, with others, like grapes and tomatoes, it oinly effects me some of the time. And, usually when these items are well mixed in with something - it doesn't effect me. The effect is very itchy sinuses (thoat, ears, teath, sensitive toungue). Is there somewhere or someone to which I can find out the cause / information about this weird allergy?

Ya! Good news, I did some harecore digging on the net and I found Oral Alergy Syndrome or Pollen-Food Alergy. It when people with severe alergic reactions to pollen, the body becomes used to rejecting proteins not just pollen but protein fruits and vegetables - mistakably unfortunately.

Well....there go my dream of being a vegetarian. :P Now I have something to tell people that I'm just "faking it" *wink* *wink*.

You have atopic dermatitis. It is most often associated with asthma and history of allergy in your family as well.

You are right; it is called oral allergy syndrome. I used to have it too. I could not eat salad until I was 35 years old. As you said, it is linked with pollen allergies. I was so bad that just getting the juice on my skin made me break out in a rash. I went to an allergist and had allergy desensitation shots for my pollen allergies. After being on the shots for five years, my allergy to raw fruits and vegetables went away! Now I can even eat salad and watermelon and all those other things.

You didn't do any thing to cause your allergy. You likely inherited it. You can, however, make it worse by continuing to eat the offending foods. It's important to leave them alone.

Go see a physician and whatever you do, don't become a vegetarian.
