Die and go to hell (as the modern world understands it) is worse. I do not believe that Hell is eternal torment but I know that many do believe this, so I am basing my statement on that. Having had an earthly depression problem, and trying to struggle through life with this problem... has led me to believe it would be far worse to be tormented forever without escape.

Cease to exist is merciful. It is an end to pain and consciousness.

I would prefer eternal life in a place where sadness, pain and illness no longer exist. ;-)

EDIT: I believe Hell as it is used in the Bible has been misunderstood and mistranslated. It means the grave, which should not be confused with the lake of fire which is the second death. (cease to exist)

I believe Nietzsche said it best, "All of the most interesting people are missing from Heaven." I don't really mind either one, that is, i don't mind if i cease to exist or if I go to hell. I would prefer to simply cease to exist, because I would imagine that by the time I die my consciousness will be in need of a good, long rest, and it would also vindicate my thoughts on the un-existence of God. Hell would be less preferable, but if I am incorrect, and there is a God, i would rather rot in hell than bask in His hypocrisy for even a moment of eternity. I think that the Christian God and the Christian Lucifer are both cruel creatures, however at least Lucifer doesn't claim to be otherwise.

Die and go to hell. If you ceased to exist you wouldn't know anything that was going on so you wouldn't care. But being aware that you are in hell, for me would be horrible. I'd rather not exist than live the rest of eternity without God and heaven.

It will be better that you had never existed than to die outside of God's grace.
It would be worse to die & not exist anymore at all.It would be hell here on earth because no one would believe in punishment.
Don't say it is Hell here already, because ppl have no idea what Hell is!But keep on disobeying God & you will learn when you get there!

Going to hell. There would be no consciousness of ceasing to exist anymore therefore no feelings etc.

Well I mean if hell was a real place I would say hell. I mean none us existed at one point in history and it didn't seem to bother us then. Hell is going to suck if people are going to be tortured for the rest of eternity.

They are one in the same, no different. Hell is the common grave of mankind - research the translation of the Hebrew and Greek words used for the word Hell.

Once someone goes to hell, they wish they had just ceased to exist.

Probably to cease to exist because, you won't be aware of where you are and it won't be eternal.
