It would not be bad, but it would be unnecessary. The PS3 is not the XBox 360. It will be fine and not overheat - it wouldn't even overheat if you left it on Folding@Home for a month. I've seen people purposely try to make their PS3 overheat and fail.

wow... I see where your coming from i would do the same thing if . Well the fan will help the air flow alot better because your room isnt really windy so mostly all the air from the ps3 come out and yea stay there but if you had the fan it would blow the hot air away and it will keep it cooler..If its battery powered its better because you can put it blowing on the system not back inside the system. Like you know.. You gave me a great idea of buying one of those fans. Oh yea like all theese people says dont buy a fan for the ps3 there right! because the ps3 fan just priduces more heat and can make it worse. But your lucky you have a ps3..Im getting mine soon...lol..have fun!

wow okay... Couple things here...
- Don't leave your ps3 in a closed cabinet and it WILL be fine. Its very difficult to overheat them otherwise
- To each your own man... If you want to stand a fan next to it just make sure its aimed under the disk drive as that is where the air gets sucked in...

You really don't have to have a fan blowing on the PS3. As far as I know, it's the Xbox 360 owners that do this to keep the console cool, but luckliy for us PS3 owners we don't have to have to have a dumb fan blowing on our consoles because Sony already took care of it for us.

it is and isnt a good idea it will help cool it but it will also blow dust into the vents causing it to overheat and burn up
