In addition to what I should look for, recommendations will be great. I want one thats 30-ish inches. It's for my room. And I want one I can play games on.

Well, could I get some brand and model recommendations?

Also: 1080p or 1080i?

For 30-ish inches, you'll have a tough time finding anything other than LCD, so that sort of solves that problem about which type.

Are they worth it? You bet. I've got a 34" and the difference is very noticeable. As far as I know, there is no reason you can't play games on any HDTV.

fisrt choose a model you like, you could go to www.circuitcity.com to check out some models, then look for tvs that have HDTV,HDMI input, and it would be better if it has an energy star sticker on the tv. its so that you could see that the tv doesnt use up a lot of energy. most tvs have it anyway
since you say that you want a 30-ish inch one then you could only get 720p resolution. (1366 * 768)

The 1080p resolution is only for tv's more than 40 inches.

HDTVs are definetly worth it, they have great quality in picture and sound. i play my xbox on it all the time and it has the best quality ive seen. its really nice., buy the way i have a samsung lcd hdtv 32" and it really is wonderful. if you have the chance once you get the hdtv then buy a surround sound system and you will have the theater kind of experience everytime you watch your tv. its awesome.

The best brands on HDTVs are Sony, samsung, panasonic, sharp.

if you dont want to spend much money and have a really good hdtv then buy a vizio they are cheap and good quality too.

wait for CEs, new TVs mean cheaper older ones, and better new ones. look at circut city. and if you are going to spend that much ommney, you might as well get 1080p, or 1080pixels wide, progressive scan. "latest" high standard

**rear projection-DLP's, NO-NO for games*** games to fast for tv, cause bad image

I have a 32" Sony Bravia LCD and just love it. My grandson hooks his xbox 360 to it and it's awesome.
