If you wandered into my church office, saying what you've typed, I'd ask this . . .
Why would you want to be baptized, and you haven't been going to church, and "you're not really looking that hard?"
Do you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead? In short, do you believe that Jesus is the Christ?
If yes, then we'd talk about getting you baptized.
I'd suspect when you go to any new church, they will want to you attend a few times before they baptize you, to make sure you understand what baptism means . .. you didn't the first time, you may not this time.
You have to, HAVE to get into a community of faith . . you are wandering alone in a spiritual wilderness, and you won't be able to learn much on your own.
Read John, then Luke, then Mark, then Mathew. Then read them again, in that order. Then read Luke and Acts -- they were written as a two-part story. Then read a few of Paul's letters -- Galatians, Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, then Philippians. Then read John and Luke again.
Godspeed you on your journey.

First of all, baptizing won't save your soul, only God's grace through your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ can do that.
Getting "dunked" without first having accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior does no more good than an afternoon at the municipal pool.
"Believer's baptism" is an act of obedience for someone who has accepted Christ. From what I've read, I suspect that you may need to be baptized again. If you submitted to baptism because all of your friends were baptized, I tend to wonder in what your "belief" was.
Also, sometimes people are baptized for the wrong reason, or even by the wrong method. I'm among the group thinks baptism requires full immersion. If you're coming from a church that only sprinkles, or pours water on top of your head, to join most baptist churches a baptism will probably be required.

There is no problem with getting baptized again, first of all. No harm can come of it. As for whether it's necessary, that it a little more complicated.
The purpose of baptism is to proclaim your faith in God publicly. It is an outward sign of your faith, and it is a very important time for every Christian. I have a bit of a hard time with infant baptism for the simple reason that infants do not know what they are being baptized for. That said, the Bible never says anything against infant baptism, so it's not wrong.
What I do believe is that it is extremely beneficial and is a huge step in your life to be baptized with full knowledge and understanding of what you are doing and why you are doing it. Therefore, I would suggest getting baptized again anyways, even if it's not completely necessary, for your own personal commitment, if nothing else. The best thing to do is to talk to a pastor you trust to make sure you're on the right track, and to make a solid commitment to Christ, and then ask him about baptism; he should be more than happy to help you through it.

OK here is how it was explained to me...After you ask God to forgive you for all you sins and agree to trust him, believe in him,and follow him to the best of you ability then its time for baptism.Baptism is the process that means this..when you go in the water your old self and all that is washed away, when you come out of the water you are a new person and you want to live for God.If your baptism was done for the right reason(you stated yours wasn't) there is no need to be baptized again but If you have prayed and this is what you feel you need and desire getting baptized again is fine ..you can be baptized as many times as you feel the need but all you need is one REAL baptism.God Bless You I hope this helps you. Take Care and find a church you feel comfortable with. All denominations feel different about this subject so follow your heart that's why God gave us freewill.

I was baptized when I first became born again and I did not understand about it either. I went to church one Sunday evening and they were having a baptism. I heard to Lord tell me to get baptized again, which I did. I was instantly healed when I came up out of the water. If you want to be baptized again, go ahead. Now that you understand the meaning behind it more, it will be a very special day for you.

I went forward and was baptized when i was 13 because I felt pressure to do it. I did not accept Jesus. When I was 28 I started going back to Church and made a commitment to Jesus. In my Church you are taught Baptism comes after accepting Jesus and I was Baptized again. In my Church they would want you to be baptized again now that you truly are a Christian.

I think it can be a very meaningful ritual....but you said that you started to read the Bible again but dont know any of the stories. Why not wait to be baptised again until you know the Bible and know what the Bible says about being Christian....then you'll have a better understanding of why you want to undergo this process.

the choice is up to you in your case.
my oldest son was baptized 3 times. as a newborn when near death he was once sprinkled as a Lutheran which i allowed simply to comfort my Lutheran in laws.
when attending a Southern Baptist mission, he wanted to be baptized at age 5. since he seemed to know who GOD and JESUS were, i allowed him to be baptized.
we found and were attending a more spiritual non-denomination church and he was baptized again as a teenager.
GOD will understand how you do not have confidence in your first baptism. he has emotions just like we do!

Baptism is what kept you going with God, you thought you were going just because everyone was, but the truth is God was working in you. Now you are a Christian, right? There is no need to get baptised again, you trust in God, he has brought you to faith, and he will continually work in you, for the rest of your life on earth. Then you will be with him for eternity in heaven.
God bless

i am going through the EXACT same thing right now (except the ages) i was baptized in the 4th grade, but i didnt really know what baptisim was simbolizing. i faded from God for a while (long while - 4th through 7th grade) but now i am back and loving harder than ever (at age 15). for me the bible thing is the exact same story. dont know nearly as much as i should, but am working at reading it more often and understanding it. as for the baptism, i say go for it. just make sure you know what you are doing and why you are doing it. pray
