I personally believe that the current global warming is fake. Well, not fake...just, not happening right now. In some places, this year has been the coldest on record. How do you explain that? If global warming was happening...wouldn't it be the warmest year on record? I'm not saying it doesn't exist however. Because, we humans do a lot of damage to the environment and I think it will soon catch up to us and pose a real problem in the distant future. Yes, I think it will happen, but not for quite some time. A change so drastic as global warming doesn't happen that quickly.

I'm a scientist at UCLA. Global warming has been a well-accepted in the vast majority of the scientific community for years, lead by researchers at NASA and elsewhere. The scientific community has already past that argument a long time ago, now the discussion is how fast and how bad the effects will be, as well as how to solve the problem.
Unfortunately, most of the public is far behind because it is a phenomenon that is a gradual effect, not like some Armageddon movie from hollywood, this is real science, real life. However, the effects of global warming add up in dramatic ways, the problem is by the time global warming is so obvious to everyone it will be too late.
If you want to see an obvious change for yourself you've got to pay attention to places that are most sensitive to climate change, in other words the "canary in the mineshaft". The most striking example are the polar ice caps, which have decreased by 22% in the last 27 years. See the information below from NASA, and I found a cool interactive map using the NASA information below that.
If you can't believe that then you must believe the moon landing was staged, the earth is flat, and the solar system revolves around the earth (probably you believe it revolves around just you.)
So let's move on to the real question...How do we fix it?

Global warming is real. Rivers, streams, lakes are drying up. The U.S. west of the Mississippi has always been a dry land (with few exceptions), but now Florida and Georgia (which each get 4 - 5 times as much precipitation as out here) are facing water shortages. Icebergs and polar ice caps are melting.
As to "Kill(ing) us all", not likely for a long time.

the imaginary myth of "global warming" is based on a single study that found the earth's average temperature increased approximately 0.6 degrees in 100 years.
first, 100 years ago, the low-tech thermometers used for recording temeperature were nowhere NEAR as accurate as today's electronic devices. The 0.6 degrees difference is much, much less than the measurement error between then and now.
second, on a planet that is estimated to be 4.5 Billion years old, 100 years is much, much less than a blink of an eye. If you wanted to gather enough data to establish a trend, let's say you wanted one-one hundredth of a percent, or 0.01 % of the earth's lifespan. that means gathering actual data for 450,000 years - WITH THE SAME INSTRUMENTS
global warming plays on your fears and pushes emotional buttons. it's NOT based on ANY legitimate scientific research, only on the UNPROVEN and UNPROVABLE theories of a few people who are more driven by a political agenda than they are interested in real science

Life, even animal life, has survived through several ice ages and in between periods of high temperature. Some life undoubtedly will be lost. One of our risk prone areas will be farmlands that produce far less food. This may cause social unrest, even widespread warfare. If world food production should drop even as little as 25% we would be in dire straights world wide. That much of a drop is highly probable with widespread drought and destructive flooding.
Should the arctic methane deposits be released by melting of permafrost, this might kill many people in the far north.
Will mankind totally perish? probably not. Will your family survive the disruption? Not as sure.

Sure it's real, the argument is what causes it. Manmade or not. I believe it's not manmade and there is nothing man can do about it. I also like to note that these so called experts were whinning about global cooling trend in the 1970's. Look it up you will find numerous articles from several resources such as the NOAA and Columbia University, University of Wisconson. Crying wolf again

great question considering the country is in the middle of the harshest winter in several years, I think algore is a quack and everyone who has bought into this global warming crap should move to Australia where they are having the coldest temperatures in 100 hundred years also. It is nonsense, just the natural cycle of the earth

I think there's a lot we don't know yet. When people discovered Mars there was thought to be intelligent life on it. People even drew maps of its "canals." Later we found that those theories were wrong. We know more about our moon than the oceans on our planet. How can we say with %100 certainty or even %95 certainty that our THEORIES of man-made climate change are correct. I challenge anyone to find a reputable source that has %95 or above certainty that we "caused" climate change. I'm not talking about influencing, I'm talking primary affecter of climate. Not that we're nudging climate but body slamming it (if you get my picture.) Reason being: if we're only nudging, what makes you think humans can do anything to "body slam" the climate back to "normal." (whatever "normal" is) We humans certainly like to think we know what is going on but we've been proven wrong many times before. I think there are real environmental issues that could certainly use more attention than this. From mercury poisoning to nuclear waste, these are real proven threats that AGW advocates are making worse by distracting from and humiliating the image of what a true environmentalist is.
