On Christmas, some distant relatives invited us over for a little bit, but they're my grandmas moms sisters kids. But they're the only family besides my Grandma from my Moms side of the family in town. But I was with with my dads side of the family on Christmas. I felt like we should of stopped over, but my dad said It would be akward, since everyone else in their family is like first relatives. My dad asked if I felt akward being around them, and I admitted no, and he said that I should have felt akward. I've known this side of my family since I was 11, and I am 19.

The problem is your Dads, not yours.
Maybe there's some 'history` that you don't know
that would cause him to feel akward.
If you've known them and are comfortable with
them, by all means keep it up.
Family is important to us all.

extended family at any gathering is always awkward. (geez - close family at the holidays is awkward -lol) that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. you might like them and they you...then you have made new friends and the bonus is they are family! if you don't like them or their views...now you know and you can move on. I think you have to give it a chance. your Dad probably didn't have good vibes, that's ok...but you need to decide on your own "vibes" from them. maybe another time, another holiday. give it a chance. good luck to you.
