I just got mine and I want to keep it in the best condition possible.

So, which is better?
To leave it in standby or shut it off completely?

Too each his own on this 1 bro....

I have mine on Standby and it's all good... but when we have big lightening storms i to it right off to avoid a power serge.

A modern house should keep the PS safe.

This is what I usually do: I leave my PS3 on standby if I plan to use my PS3 again within a few hours. If I don't plan to use my PS3 again for the day, I usually just turn it off by flipping the main power switch.

I don't think that leaving the PS3 on standby mode for a long time will have a bad affect on it at all. If the PS3 is not going to be in use for a long period of time, just turn it off all the way by flipping the main power switch.

I don't know if leaving it in standby has a long term affect....but what I do, is I always turn mine completely off when I'm done playing it. simply because I feel as though if I leave it turned on....even if in standby mode, that it could cause the system to get hot, cuz even though you're not playing it, the system's still turned on. just a suggestion. everybody has their own preferences

it's just like your computer, you can leave it on standby if you play a lot, or you could turn it off when not using it. I think this is better and turn mine completely off when i'm goin to bed (most of the time)

and i leave my computer on always, ps3 doesnt seem right

Well the thing about stand by on a ps3 is it is nothing like stand by on the psp... I leave mine on stand by all the time unless I am leaving town or don't want my friends messing around with it when I'm not in the room...
See when you press the ps button it gives you all those options of quit game/ reassign/ TURN OFF SYSTEM/ turn off controller
Stand by on a ps3 is just like turning off your pc... Technically a PC is on stand by when you look at it like that...
