You have to undergo a thorough background check by Vegas PD, before they issue you a Nevada guard license. There's also a written test involved. To secure a NV guard license, you first have to be hired by a guard company, who will sponsor you and guide you through the application process. Once you secure your guard license, you can quit that guard company and work for someone else. The pay gets better when you secure a firearm license and, I'm not sure, but I think they require a separate license if you want to carry a baton.

My son-in-law used to work security at a Reno casino while in college. He had a lot of previous experience as a security guard. So I know that positions are available.

There are other options, too. Wackenhut does a lot of security at the airport and the Nevada Test Site and Dept. of Energy operations. A lot of the security guys are ex-military.

Also...a lot of Metro cops are ex-military security. I don't think you need a college degree to be a cop in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, or Henderson.

majority of the jobs in vegas that are worth applying for are always willed from within. Hardly do they higher from the outside for a good position. You have to work your way up...if you can get that far
