my cat also does this for minutes after pooping he covers it up but continues to scratch, he scratches at the sides of the box , the wall next to the litter box even at the floor. i guess all cats are weird like that, just let it do whatever it wants they're in charge anyways

My kitten does this too, she learned it from another cat when she was a baby that I took in. She was a street cat and I was teaching her to like people and my kitten learned a few "habits" from her. Its a natural behavoir for a cat to bury its feces and a cat using a box instead of the dirt outside leaves little material in her mind to use to cover things up. Shes not crazy, she is being a cat and probably saw her mother or siblings do it when she was a baby. Don't bother covering things up for her, different cats use the box differently. I have three kitties and they all use the box completly different from each other!

It is not weird for a cat to scratch the side of the litter box. Kitty is cleaning the litter off her paws when she does this.
All mine do it, but they do cover their poop. My oldest I lost in July did not cover her poop and her vet told me it was an act of dominance. Make perfect sense..she was the alpha kitty!
Like one poster said, when I hear 'the sound' I know it's time to go poopy scoop.
Purrs to you and kitty.

I think you are the one with the issues. Not all cats cover up their crap after using the litter box.
Why she scratches the inside of the box istead is beyond me... my cat does that too sometimes, but he also covers up his crap.
My old cat never covered up her crap...and she never really scratched at her litter or the box...

If your cat has "issues", then so do mine! I have 12 cats and almost all of them do the same thing. Fortunately, when I hear that sound, I know SOMEONE has been in the litterpan, so I go scoop it out! No poop = no smell !!

i am not sure why cats do this, but my cat scratches the sides and top of the litter box every time she goes in there, so i bought a littermaid and it works great.

She doesn't have issues. She may be learning disabled. Some cats are so domesticated that they don't cover what they've done. My 18 yr old male never has.

If you're going to the trouble of covering it for her, why not go ahead and dump it.
And quit obsessing over her toilet habits.
