Here are some do-it-yourself sites

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial-temporal_reasoning
"Spatial-temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize spatial patterns and mentally manipulate them over a time-ordered sequence of spatial transformations.

This ability is important for generating and conceptualizing solutions to multi-step problems that arise in areas such as architecture, engineering, science, mathematics, art, games, and everyday life."

Another words the ability to not only handle shapes and to move inside of a space but to do that over time. Examples could be a robot that automatically refuels satellites thus extending their lifespan.

Here is some informatoin on Spatial Robots:

This is a more complex idea so there are less do-it-yourself projects.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Reconfiguring_Modular_Robotics
"Modular self-reconfiguring robotic systems are autonomous kinematic machines with variable morphology. Beyond conventional actuation, sensing and control typically found in fixed-morphology robots, self-reconfiguring robots are also able to deliberately change their own shape by rearranging the connectivity of their parts, in order to adapt to new circumstances, perform new tasks, or recover from damage."

This would be a robot capable of changing itself to match the environment, terrian or even repair themselves.
