Over the history of man kind, religion has corrupted the government, led to wars, and caused mass murders. Whenever and wherever there is religion, there are at least a number of people who are unhappy. For example, the church became corrupted in the Middle Ages and caused a lot of discontent, and 60 years ago, there was the Holocaust. If you think about it, it did more bad than good. Then why do we all follow a religion?

hi Juliet,

- First, I think you are a smart person and I hope you will come to realize that God and religion was invented to control primitive people.
- I had answer a similar question like this before. Religious people of different religions keep fighting and killing each others to claim that only their God is real God; I don't have to give example because you already nailed them.
- If God was real, why did he let human being killing each others in his name?
- There are different religions on this planet, each has its own bible, rules and ideas of God, and ironically, they don't like each others. So who is right? who is wrong? Is it worth it to find out? to fight for? I don't think so.
- Why don't we just live everyday with our opened hands and hearts, treat people the way we want to be treated? Spend our time and energy on people around us instead of depending our religion.
- People who died for religious purposes such as the terrorists on 11/9; who knows they go to hell or heaven, but only thing that's true and really matter here is that they killed their own kind and commited activities that against human race.

- I am atheist and I think every human being, man or woman, is born equal. We share so many similarities, our feelings love, loneliness, sadness, joy; our thinkings reasons and purposes. so why don't we just live and share those similarities instead of fighting for something we have no clue about?
- More and more people no longer believe in God and religion simply because they are smart enough to understand that there is no God. Religion limits their right to live and experiece their life fully.

- There is no God, no heaven, no hell, only one life to live, live the best out of it, try your best to make yourself happy and people happy, always be ready for your final day on this world, all of your energy will be return to the universe and new things will be created. So this life is only your chance.

My relationship with Christ transcends religion, but no religion did not cause corrupted government, wars, mass murders, etc. People caused those things, some people might have USED religion as an EXCUSE, but the religion itself is not the cause.

The cause is hunger for power, greed for land and money, and just plain bossiness. We would have those things just as much if there was no such thing as Religion.

Over the history of mankind, man has rebelled against God and killed again and again and again. Those farthest from God (Atheists) have killed more than any conceivable religion ever has. Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, etc.

Check your history. If you think the Jews were looking for a war against Adolf Hitler I'm afraid you have drunk way too much Kool-Aid. Wake up already.

Jesus Christ offers eternal life. What is so bad about that?

Please repent of your sins today. And put your faith in Jesus to save you.

Within every religion there are humans.... That says it all.

But you're painting a very one-sided picture. Look at the good things believers do:

1. Last year alone, CBN Partners:
 provided medical treatment to over 785,000 people;
 drilled clean, fresh water wells and cisterns for over 425,000 thirsty people;
 ended the suffering of over 625 children through cleft palate surgery;
 provided hundreds of thousands of meals;
 paid the school tuition and gave supplies to thousands of young students.

2. Emmanuel Activity Centre (EAC)
COH runs a day activity centre called Emmanuel Activity Centre (EAC), serving people who have:
Down’s syndrome
Intellectual disabilities
Autism spectrum disorder
Cerebral palsy
Multiple disabilities

3. We operate across the spectrum of violent conflict: from displacement to repatriation, from rehabilitation to the re-development of conflict-damaged communities. CORD’s key sectors are education and livelihoods. Our work also addresses cross-cutting issues: child protection, gender violence, trauma, HIV/AIDS, environmental issues and forgiveness and reconciliation.

God said His Word would cause division. I follow Jesus and the Bible because I believe it's the Word of God. Man screws everything up in the name of religion. That doesn't mean that God isn't the Savior of this world. It just means that man needs saving!

Allie is right.

And most of the ones that follow it without understanding what they're doing are mostly motivated by fear.

The exact same fear that they convert into hatred against people who think or behave different than them.

Did religion do the harm, or did people that exploit the beliefs of others do the harm?

No. It's not. However, be careful not to equate Creator with religion. The two could not be more separate.
