I lived in hermosa and redondo for years. wonderful places to buy a home. you can't go wrong investing in property in either of those places. or playa del rey if you can find a home there.

I have lived in the South Bay over 50 years. My little 2 bedroom home cost $11,500 and is now worth about $550,000, soooooo, the point is....there is no place that is NOT expensive. East Torrance costs less than West Torrance, East/North Gardena is cheaper than West/South Gardena. If you can find a place in the $400,000 range you will be very lucky.

Most of the "good cities" that I can think of in the South Bay are expensive....e.g. Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes Estates, Manhattan Beach, etc.
...Maybe El Segundo?

Coastal Long Beach. Compared to some other areas, it's a comparitive bargain.

Lakewood isn't bad, but choose the right part. Parts of San Pedro and Lomita are actually really good, and you can get nice deals there, too.

Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, take your pick. All great cities.
