I have lived in the South Bay over 50 years. My little 2 bedroom home cost $11,500 and is now worth about $550,000, soooooo, the point is....there is no place that is NOT expensive. East Torrance costs less than West Torrance, East/North Gardena is cheaper than West/South Gardena. If you can find a place in the $400,000 range you will be very lucky.

Most of the "good cities" that I can think of in the South Bay are expensive....e.g. Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes Estates, Manhattan Beach, etc.
...Maybe El Segundo?

Coastal Long Beach. Compared to some other areas, it's a comparitive bargain.
Lakewood isn't bad, but choose the right part. Parts of San Pedro and Lomita are actually really good, and you can get nice deals there, too.
