I bought a set of dies for my .45 ACP. There is a sizer die with a decapping pin in it. Isn't that supposed to pop out the old primer? Because my reloading book describes a universal decapping die. I don't need that do I? Thanks.

Use the directions that came with the dies. Every sizer die has a decapper. No need for a universal decapper, because a separate process would have to be used. One stroke of the die and you are resized and decapped.

Your "sizer die" and decapping pin will work fine. You do have to adjust the die and pin to work right. The instructions on the package will tell you how to do this.

The decapping tool doesn't resize your cases. By using the resizing die with the decapping pin you are doing two things at once. It takes a little more effort to resize and decap your 45 ACP cases, but it saves you a step.

The 45ACP is a fairly low-pressure round, so resizing shouldn't take that much effort. As long as you bought carbide dies, you shouldn't have to lube them either. I've found that they are easier to resize if you polish them first.

I polish mine with the primers still in place. This way you don't get polishing media in the primer pocket or in the flash hole.
