Just think: they never forgot the crusades. They probably won't forget this soon either because they are being occupied (I'm not making judgements, just stating a fact) and they probably believe that the only reason why they're being occupied is because of the oil.

Wooglet Voot, seems to think that the Crusades were an event of the Neolithic Age. Another 10000 years? It's only been 1000 years since the Crusades.
I believe that the example set by Iraq and Afghanistan, and reflected by certain positive developments in the Palestinian areas, Lebanon, Lybi and the Mahgreb will reflect the Jeffersonian ideal of the "ball of Liberty" rolling across the globe. It's not going to look the same everywhere and certainly not all at once, but it will happen.

If we don't Cut, Run, and Surrender like the Cowardly Democrats wish to do, then that region could see unprecedented growth, both politically and economically. Consider the conditions in Europe after WWII, the entire western Europe was in ruins, if the Allies had not done what was needed to stabilize and re-build the infrastructure and enforce representative government (Marshall Plan) The European union would be far different today.

That depends on whether or not we cut and run. If we continue to support the fledgling Iraqi republic, it will act as a jump start to modernizing the Middle East. The Middle East has been stagnant for some 1000 years now but has modernized steadily since the end of WWII. Still, it has been slow but with an example of a working republic and increased general prosperity, it will serve as an inspiration for positive change. On the other hand, if we cut and run, the likely result will be an emboldened radical fringe that will increase its attacks on the west and western culture and on the Arab monarchies likely resulting in larger and more intense warfare that will be sure to draw in the western powers.

Hopefully it will help to stabilize this land that has never had true stability. And I doubt that very many think of this as a continuation of or even a new crusade.

Since every Muslim believes that this war is just a continuation of the crusades that have not ended since 1095 it probably means another ten thousand years of mistrust.
