The New International Version. It is easy to understand and from what more that one pastor has told me, very accurate. The NIV is translated from the original languages whereas some translations are basically a copy of a copy. The life application study bible in the NIV is a wonderful place to start. One was given to me when I first became a Christian, and it explained alot that I was reading. Good Luck.

Oh yes. That's what I read. I use the NIV (New International Version). The Living Bible is also in modern english. Also, an NIV or Living Study Bible is great. It interjects explanations or cultural traditions at the time, etc etc

The Message is in modern language and easy to read, but omits important parts of Scripture to make it that way. I like the New American Standard Bible.

the so called modern bibles do read easier than the original translation, but be careful, most of the research i have done shows that allot of important things get translated out. often whole verses are omitted. i use the king James, and as long as you know when it says thee, or thou, its referring to the singular. and when it says ye, or you its referring to the plural. i think you will find it reads pretty simple. good luck and God bless
