I am wondering if anyone has any experience in doing this. I want to paint some 2 inch styrofoam balls with either black, hot pink or white paints then I want to glitter the balls to make them sparkle. Do they make glitter in black and hot pink and does anyone know what the result will look like? I am making a centerpiece for a table and want to fill a glass bowl with the three different colors, will you be able to tell that they are styrofoam balls? I wanted to use Christmas balls, but its hard to find black and hot pink balls that are inexpensive unless they are in the specialty sections of the stores and I need 10 centerpieces, so I cant afford all the specialty shop christmas balls. Any advice?

I cant afford the balls I need even at 50% off, I could only find black and hot pink in specialty stores originally marked $20 for only 6, so for 10 centerpieces where I'd need about 12 balls per vase, that would be too much and my husband would never agree.

Like the person above me said, styrofoam balls are easy to paint with spray paint. I stab them with a toothpcik to hold onto to avoid getting too much paint on my hands. You can also buy spray glitter and a plain clear sealant to hold it all on the balls. They are not expensive and you can get them at WalMart or any craft store. As for them looking like styorfoam balls, The Breakers (home of the Vanderbilts) uses glitter-coated red styrofoam balls in their Christmas decor and it is absolutely gorgeous. You can't tell they are styrofoam balls unless you scrape the paint and glitter off with your nail. Good luck!

Well, right now you can get christmas items 50% off in most stores... other than that, yes you'll be able to get those colors of glitter in the craft store or online. If you paint the styrofiam first, make sure you use a paint that is compatible with styrofoam, some paints will make it melt. Acrylic paints will work fine. You can add the glitter while the paint is still wet, then spray it with a sealer (once the paint is dry) to keep the glitter from going everywhere. I would test a couple first to make sure you get the look you want.
