Because they developed writing before they developed refrigeration.
When you live in a very hot place, food spoils rapidly. Similar prohibitions exist for jewish folks....and for the same reasons.
Pigs are extremely similar in many ways to humans, so the transfer of disease and infection is commonplace. China has no such restrictions on the raising or eating of pork....which is why we get so many nasty strains of disease out of China every year during flu season.
Anyway, like most other prohibitions, most Islamics I know only honor this restriction at home....just like the rules against drinking and whoring, etc. They become the biggest indulgers when they are off the plantation.

Pig is Haram, yes!
Who says Muslim cannot eat pork? Of course Muslim can eat pork - WHEN there is no other food to eat and it is the only survival.

The Koran reinforces the Torah's food prohibitions, with a few minor exceptions.
On a related note, the only Kosher bakery in Los Gatos, CA is owned/operated by an Arabic Muslim.

Well have you ever smelled bacon? It smells fuking nasty!!!!!!
First of all it is unclean and you know why?
because it rolls around in mud, eating its crap, and how the hell do you eat those things? I know that they have been in nasty places and othe people know that to but you still eat em! and you guys think ohh it just takes some water to get the dirt off.

For the same reason Jews don't eat it - pig is unclean according to the dietary laws of both religions.

They (like Jews) are Old Testament followers and the Bible OT (Deuteronomy 14:8) & Qur'an says not to. Pigs fall into the OT & Qur'an as unclean animals, which are taboo.

by eating pork you can have disease....its for our health reason as well it was forbidden for them
