I know this has been asked but I think it is interesting to see how many different images we all have of "God".

One more question, Do you believe in the Mother God, Azna?

For atheists, if you ever believed in a deity, how did you picture him/her?

As a spirit of indescribable light and warmth, radiating love, joy, and untold knowledge. But..it is a light that purifies, also, and purification can be a painful process.

Holy Spirit--the bringer of divine wisdom and comfort---is the feminine aspect of the Godhead.

This is what is called the TRINITY. That is God in three different forms. The Trinity is defined as God the Father (the BIG GUY up in heaven), the Son (Jesus who was sent to earth in human form), and the Holy Ghost (His spirit that floats around here on earth helping/watching). These forms are NOT independant of each other, but in fact can occur at the same time simply as different manifestations of ONE being. This is what OMNIPRESENT means. If you think about the concept of God, then you must conclude that it is VERY possible that He can be both multiple forms at once and everywhere at once. Think of the Trinity like water; water can be ice (solid), water we drink (liquid) or steam/vapor (gas). This is what God is like. Also think of a person who grows through life, first as a child, then as an adult, and finally as an elderly person. (Although God doesn't progress through the stages, but can choose any stage at any time). It as if you looked at a person from the either the side, front, or back. They are the same person always, just a different view. I myself am at all times simultaneously a Mother, a Sister, and a Daughter... but still me. Like God, I also have many names; some call me 'daughter' some 'Mommy,' and others by my first name. I am a student, a teacher, counselor, guide, disciplinarian, worker, helper, creator, wife, mother, sister, daughter, lover, house-cleaner, cook, cheer-team, friend... All these names/titles, but still me.

I picture God standing on the other side of an ocean holding out His hand screaming at us "I've sent my Son and He died for you...this is the truth...if you will hear me and listen to me and turn to me you can just start walking over here, yeah even on the water and we will rule over all things...I put down my perfection so you aren't held accountable for your imperfection, I've given you my hand, but if you will not listen and believe me and take my hand I'm gonna put my foot down in this ocean someday and alI the waves will wash you all away." It's no different than a parent spanking a child so that child doesn't continue to do things that get it into trouble or even killed.

I never believed, but at church it seemed like some old man in the sky, probably based on pictures I saw in encyclopedias as a child, maybe of Zeus.

It made no sense. It never took hold. However, to keep the peace I never told my parents I was a non-believer. They are good folks and gradually figured it out for themselves. Their feelings for me never changed and they didn't try to convert me.

I never have in all my forty years tried to picture him since He is Spirit. I suppose the closet thing is seeing a man glowing as bright as he sun. Good question.

I feel that I have been excluded from this question but I will answer it anyway.

If I were to try to imagine such an omnipresence then it would be infinity in itself!
Nothing less could satisfy!

I believe that God has a body of flesh and bone just as we do and that we are as it says in Genesis created in his image and likeness.

I have pictures of God in compromising situations. That's how I'm getting into Heaven.
