i just want recreational shooting/target practice, so power doesn't matter(though less recoil would be better)and accuracy is a huge part in deciding in what i want

9mm are definatly bigger and more powerful. However 9mms are very easy and fun to shoot. Plus it could be used as a home defense round. .22s are just as fun.
Be safe and good luck

A size comparison between the two calibers isn't possible unless the two weapons are named. There are relatively large .22 semi-automatics that would dwarf some of the concealable 9mm semis. Both calibers come in a range of pistol sizes.
The 9mm bullet is heavier than the .22 bullet, has greater impact on target, and produces greater recoil. The .22 is more accurate and the ammunition is much cheaper.

You'll be happier with a .22 revolver, not a semi=auto, especially at that price. .22 semi-autos are notorious for jamming and/or being really picky about what ammo they will cycle reliably. Unfortunately, the ones they like are generally NOT the cheap, on-sale .22 ammo you see all the time. With a revolver, it will shoot whatever you put in it, and if it should happen to misfire due to cruddy or old ammo, you just pull the trigger and shoot the next one instead -- no aggravating jam-clearing to deal with while you're trying to have fun shooting at cans. With a revolver you also have the option of getting a longer barrel, for really satisfying target work. A 6" or 8" barrel is a lot more fun than what you'll get with the usual semi-auto barrel. Revolvers are also a lot easier to clean & maintain, and unlike semi-autos, almost never need any kind of adjustment or repair at a gunsmith. For the shotgun -- go with the Mossberg 500. It's usually considered the most reliable shotgun ever made, and the only one that passed the cycling tests for the Defense Department.

.22 long rifle is .223 diameter and 9MM is .355 diameter. Bullet weight of the .22 lr on average in 38 grains while the 9MM is 115 grains (7000 grains per pound) The 9mm is a far better defense gun.

Pistols come in all sizes and in all calibers. You have pocket .22's and you have large target grade .22's. Same thing with the 9's.

Madman doesn't have a clue about accuracy. .22 is far more accurate but the 9mm is more powerful from a stopping perspective.
.22 has more velocity though.
What are you looking to do with it?
