No belief or philosophical frame set is good or bad for society.
It's proselytism and intolerance what destroys nations.

hi! I'm a christian. And I don't exactly think atheism is bad. i just think that christianity is better! And not all atheist believe the same thing. Some believe in killing all christians(I've met atheist like that) Some believe in God but don't worship him. Atheism is diverse. Now if all Atheist believed in killing christians, then atheism would be bad for society. A lot of my friends are atheist. I don't try to convert them, I let them come to me. How can an Atheist have a moral compass of their own or even comprehend morality if all morality is relative anyway? It's like having a compass to show you which way is North, but North having no real meaning, everyone's "North" may be in a different direction. I think atheism will denigrate society even more.

if there was complete atheism then we wouldnt celebrate christmas and or easter and then there wouldnt be any days when we could officially get off work.
other than that I can see no harm
now religion on the other hand. it is the cause of most wars. some religions have created pedophiles and many people have been killed for questioning books that have not been proven correct. so if anything religion is bad.

As a Christian, I do not believe that Atheism is something bad for a society at all, what is bad is those that tries to justify there actions with a banner that it be a Christian one (History is full of those) or an Atheist one

I agree with some of the other answers. Particular beliefs can be bad (like the Nazi view of Jews, homosexuals, and people with developmental disabilities or the colonial European view of native people) but to generalize that all atheists (or all christians) are bad is just wrong. There can be bad people who believe in Jesus, Mohammad, Budda, little green men, or no god at all. And there can be good people who do not believe in religion. A belief system is bad if it demonizes another group of people or if it claims to provide some superiority over others. my two cents

As an atheist, I see other individuals who call themselves atheists because they do not believe in god. The word ATHEIST means much more than that. It means to believe in as little bogus as possible. As an atheist I try my best at that. We will never know a lot of things so we will never be able to believe in NO BOGUS. But we do the best we can and try to advance in technology and knowledge to work toward that goal. Religion is slowing us down. So many people have died of cancer for example. This could have been because research on cancer was halted because labs were burned because of people who thought they were doing it for some guy up in the sky. Yes, these things have really happened. People burn research labs because it's what they believe in and indirectly kill tons of people. If this "guy up in the sky" existed, I'd like to meet him. I'd like to ask him why he made these innocent people die. Supposedly, the "guy in the sky" made us in the image of himself, so if he is like us... i'm sure he would be hesitant to answer this question. He would surely smite me right where I stood. I've often wondered... if god existed, why did he create atheists to question his existence.
For many reasons, I believe that religion is horrible for society.

Atheism is not bad for society, and neither is religion, until one group attacks another. It is the spread of discord rather than peace which is bad for society.
Did you ever notice how one person will ask question after question after question, every day, attacking all groups who do not share her/his beliefs?
That is what is pathetic. It stirs up strife and anomosity. It also indicates prejudice. Mature people ought to be above this.

A lack of belief in supernatural gods isnt likely to lead to anything bad happening.
Some bad people might be atheist but they are not bad because they are atheist.
Religion is bad for many reasons.
It leads directly to conflict and war - Only religion could addle someones mind to the extent necessary to get them to blow themselves up or fly a plane into a building. It also gives leaders a false certainty that they are correct, " God is on my side", which makes entering wars more likely.
It limits my freedoms - Sunday shopping restrictions stem straight from the Ten Commandments.
It impedes scientific progress - eg embryonic stem cell research, teaching of creationism.
It leads to false morality eg the desire to restrict use of condoms in Africa where AIDS is endemic.
It encourages an irrational belief in the value of prayer rather than taking positive personal action.
In the 21st century its a disgrace that we allow ourselves to be guided by bronze age works of mythology. Its time for all atheists to make a stand against mumbo jumbo nonsense.

why are the atheist on the Religion and Spiritually page? by my example some one has a need of a thought about God and you get a lot of hate from the nonbelievers society is the same way. yet we get waxed if we say anything.
