One of my room mates was diagnosed with T.B a few days ago I had told him to go check it out when it started but he just would not here it. This went on for 3 months he had really bad cough attacks and would not take care of him self. I had a nurse come to my house and explained to me that I had to get tested because he was a level 4 she did not explain to much but I’m kind of scared she is coming to my house tomorrow to give me the test. Don’t know what to do… I guess what I’m trying to say is what can happen to me If I I’m infected? should i tell my girl?

Don't panic yet. The proper antibiotics should treat you, unless you have other conditions that affect your immune system.

You absolutely need to get tested. Until you are medically cleared, you should wear a specially designed mask in public or when around other people.

You do need to get away from that roommate.

Simple go and get yourself tested right now. You need to let public health service know you have been exposed and who else may have been. Tell your girl at once so she knows what has happened. I would imagine she would be even more furious with you if you did not let her know and she got it. T.B. is extremely contagious and deadly if not treated. And the sooner you get treated the better. You can also be a carrier without any of the symptoms. Ever hear of Typhoid Mary?
Get going.

My ex-husband had T.B. and I never contracted it. The test is a simple test that is read in a few days. Depending on the results you will start antibiotics. Yes, if you are positive you should tell her and anyone else you came into contact with.

Follow your doctors directions and you will be fine.

Yes, you should tell your girl because it is contagious. However once you are tested if you are infected they will give you more tests as well as medication. There will be a period of time that you will be taking the medication followed by further testing to make sure the T.B. is gone. Make sure your girl is tested as well as it is airbourne.

If you test positive, you have converted. The first thing is to get a chest x-ray. After that you can get medicine that will clear it up for you. In some places it is free. After that you will always test positive, but you will not be contagious. Tell your girlfriend as she might want to get tested too.

If you are infected with TB, then you will start a course of antibiotics to treat it. Everyone who has been in close contact with you will need to be tested too, including your girl. And if anyone of them tests positive, then anyone that they have been in close contact with will need to be tested and so on. It's a highly infectious disease, but is very treatable.

By all means tell your girl, and anyone else you've been in close contact with. They will need to be tested. If you test positive, see a doctor and get rid of it!
