Start with the best that you can afford, and each year trade up to a slightly better model.

Start with what you can afford now, which might not be the "nice" car you eventually want, but as your finances improve, work your way up to better and better cars.

Don't be tempted to shortcut the process by buying more car than you can now afford. Long term loans and added debt may get you the car but cause you serious problems in the future. Be patient and be smart.

Check your local auctions. There are always nice cars that are being sold in these auctions and if you get lucky no one is interested in them.

So you can get it with a low bid. But the best deals are made in Dealer auctions. But you will need to have a dealership license to be able to participate in those auctions. If you know someone that has one you can go to the auction with them and use their license to purchase the vehicle.
