i would make a pea soup with the bone, and I can give you that recipe if you want it...just email me from my profile..
also, I would probably make a quiche with it.
That's so easy.
You take one pie crust (premade or homemade)
6 ounces ham
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
1/2 cup grated cheese (i'd use moz. or an italien blend...)
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Place the rolled dough in the pie pan. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes, then line with aluminum foil. Blind bake (that's baking the crust with nothing in it) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges. Allow the crust to cool on the table while you make the filling.
In a saute pan melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the ham and cook until browned. Place the ham on top of the cooked crust. To the fat remaining in the pan, add the sliced onions and thyme and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are very soft and lightly caramelized, about 6 minutes. Scatter the onions over the ham and top with the grated cheese.
In a large bowl whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, remaining 1 teaspoon of salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Pour the egg mixture over the ham, onions, and cheese in the pie shell, adding just enough of the egg mixture to come within 1/4-inch of the top of the shell. Bake on the bottom rack of the oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the custard is set and quiche is golden brown on top. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
that is so yummy. My dad made it the other day, but with bacon instead of ham.

You can also make your green bean casserole recipe but add sauteed onions and garlic, mushrooms, and cubes of your ham. There is something about that mixture with the ham that is wonderful - and be sure to use the fried onions in the can - the big can - with half mixed in and half on top.
I freeze my ham even though it's already been frozen - I don't use it for sandwiches but I do use it in soups and other dishes. In fact, when I use it in pea soups, I put the bone in first, with some meat on it, and when the soup is almost done, I remove the bone, cut off the meat and put back into the soup and then thaw out a small 8 oz pkg of sliced ham - cutting it into small pieces, and put it into the soup at the last minute and heating it. Then it isn't all cooked out.

Well,if there is a bone in it that makes a great split pea soup. You can find tons of recipes for it all over the net. Also,a quench,or a ham and cheese omelet, which the hubby and kids really enjoy. Also casseroles of all kinds. It does not matter if te ham was already frozen. You can refreeze the leftovers!Hope i helped!!Oh by the way,my husband works in a food warehouse and often brings home chicken in big 40 pound boxes.Last year I had a family emergency and we had to freeze it before I had a chance to wrap it all up.So then we thawed out a large portion and refroze it,and it was fine!Just to reassure you.

You can still slice it and freeze it for whatever uses you want since the ham is already cooked. It's just raw meat that shouldn't be refrozen while it's still raw.
I love ham sandwiches, ham with scalloped or au gratin potatoes, ham with eggs or pancakes, ham steak (just slice it thicker) with baked yam or sweet potato, ham in a chef salad, etc.
If you have the bone, split pea soup is excellent or make a navy bean with ham soup.
Enjoy your ham. I think I could eat ham every day!

I cut the fatty pieces up first and store them in a refrigerated container. I will use some of it to go with black eyed peas for new years. I save the lean meat for sandwiches and breakfast. Any bone will be added to some navy beans or pinto beans this winter. nothing on a hog gets wasted at a cajuns house.I will feed the dogs the bones and the fat to the kittys if anythang else is left.

FABULOUS FRIED RICE
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 egg, beaten
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed

2 c. diced cooked ham, cut into small cubes

1 tsp. sesame oil
4 green onions, sliced
Fried rice veggie ideas:
Suggestions: Sliced, diced or shredded, raw or cooked celery, green or red pepper, mushrooms, carrots, bean sprouts, broccoli, zucchini, green beans, peas or snow peas, cabbage (regular or Chinese)
In a wok or a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp. of the oil over high heat. Add egg and cook, stirring, until egg is scrambled. Remove scrambled egg to a plate. Pour the remaining oil into the wok. When it is very hot, add chopped onion and garlic and cook, stirring, for 2 or 3 minutes or just until onion is softened. Add raw vegetables first, followed by cooked vegetables. Add cooked meat, stirring to mix well and heat through. Add rice, stirring constantly to break up the lumps of rice, mix it with the other ingredients and heat thoroughly. Add soy sauce and sesame oil and cook, stirring and tossing, for 2 or 3 minutes. Stir in scrambled eggs and green onions and stir-fry for one more minute. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

I often make scalloped potatos and Ham with left overs. Then I throw the bone in a pot and make pea soup or bean soup with it.
I can provide recipes for any of these if you want.
