Maybe no other branch will claim them. Or they want to keep all the money for themselves.

It's an opportunity to sound "above" any sort of sectarian claims, sort of like Huck's Christmas commercial. Or perhaps because the denomination with the matching credal philosophy is one they don't want a part of - I can imagine a church with identical beliefs to Southern Baptists or Christian Reformed who wouldn't want to be a part of the larger organization.

Or maybe they're just so big that they've reached the critical mass to avoid having to bother with an external organization.

No. Large churches probably feel more comfortable saying that they're "non-denominational" as to not scare people away.

Churches are trying to tell as many people about Jesus as possible, and labeling themselves as a certain denomination probably wouldn't help their cause.

No, I think that they are trying to appeal to the largest possible demographic. By not mentioning a denomination they avoid turning anyone away.

They're simply non-denominational. They're not part of a denomination. It's pretty straightforward.

There are lots of non-denominational churches. I attend one. It's not a mega church; it's just non-denominational.

I think its cuz they want to appeal to the masses and don't want to scare people off so they don't list a denominational affiliation and not cuz they're ashamed.

I doubt they're ashamed as much as they are trying to appeal to the masses.

I don't know.

I don't like to attend a church where it is so big that the pastor can't know all of his flock.

I like to be able to call the pastor when tragedy happens.

Oh, is THAT what one is? I was thinking it just referred to a really, really big church. Like a cathedral, but more glib.
