it is what he does after rehab that is just as important, and you should be attending alanon to get yourself educated on how you can help your mate once he is out of rehab...

The rehab can help with the alcohol, but he needs a lot of therapy after that to get down to the reason he hit a woman. I would be careful if I were you.

no. as a person who has been to several, i can say that the abuser must make up their mind themselves to change, and no amount of "therapy" will make them do that. it must come from within. all rehab can do is separate them from the problem for a little while, but unless you lock them up forever, the problem will always be there once they get out. and they will have to face it.

He hit you because he has anger issues, not because he was drunk. Being drunk was just the excuse he gave himself to give in to them.

Rehab is mostly keeping a person away from alcohol and drugs and the people and places they used them for 28 days and intense 12step indoctrination.

AA (12step) works for about 5% of the people who try it, same as no treatment at all.

For a short time for most. Sadly, alcoholism is a very tricky and cunning disease ... it tells the sufferer that he hasn't a disease.

Long term, rehab is successful 30% or less of the time.

Any rehab program will work, if you really want it to. Once he gets out see it he will attend AA meetings. They really help, and they have additional help for significant others.

only if he doesn't return to the same social network later; That means if you drink , he's likely to drink again; Separate yourself from this dangerous situation at least a year to see if the pattern returns

Just as long as he is ready to let it work and he has the support of everyone around him to keep it working.
