I'm in the same type of boat--we're planning ours for Dec. 21. I know, it's close to Christmas, but that is what will work best for us--for us, we have a lot of out of town guests coming, so we figure they'll have lots of time off near Christmas as well, time to travel! :) So it can go both ways...for us, with our families and friends, it seems it would be more convenient for everyone.
The number one thing is, you won't be able to please EVERYone...and if you have your heart set on one certain date, just go for it! People can give up one year for you guys. :) Have fun and good luck! :)

Hummmm from a holiday point of view December is not the greatest month for a wedding. Of those dates you are best with 5th of December any closer to Christmas day and you could lose some guests attending as you are choosing to have a wedding at the busiest time of year for people.
So go with the 5th but keep in mind you can chose your date but you still have the church and reception bookings to think about which might make changes to your date. Unless you book soon you may have trouble getting a venue as there are so many company christmas parties etc so book early.

The 27th of December is a good date. People will be over and done with the Christmas parties. The 5th of December will be the best date because people won't be traveling and people won't busy too busy around that time. It's sort of a twist of I suppose. I think that the 27th is good but not the best because people will still be on vacation and not as many people will be able to attend but if you know that your guests won't be on vacation then you should definitely have the wedding on the 27th.

I'd avoid the holiday season myself...but your choice. Keep in mind, too, that many people will have various holiday parties to go to throughout the month of December. Not only that, but gift-wise, many people are already going to be spent with Christmas shopping.
Now, step back and ask yourself why the venues are half price. How frequent are raging snowstorms in your area (besides this past weekend, we've cancelled or altered plans nearly every Saturday this month because of nasty weather).
Sorry, but I really don't think it's a good idea (even though my parents were married December 15).

The 27th is a bit more accomodating in that you aren't tying them down during the pre-holiday madness! People are a bit more relaxed because the holidays are over, yet they are still in the pre-New Years party mode. It's a beautiful time of year and most people have a few days off around then. Only obstacle I can think of is that people often travel to see thier families and may not be available, so ask around and find out.

Hi.
If it was a local wedding, I would not be irritated by going to one on the 27th. However, if you have lots of out-of-town guests, that WILL NOT work. Another consideration....make sure that the pastor/priest/minister you want will be available on the 27th. Many take a vacation immediately after Christmas. (I'm a church secretary).
If you want to save the expense on decorating the church, DO NOT consider the 5th. Many churches will NOT be decorated for the Christmas season yet by December 5th.
I would go with the 27th (if most guests are local and if the pastor is available), otherwise go with December 13th.
Good luck with your decision!

My recomendation is the 5th of December because it puts a bit of distance between the wedding and Christmas. Saturday the 13th would be ok too. I really wouldn't recommend the 27th because that is two really big and special days too close together. I hope it goes really well whatever you decide.

We just went to a wedding on December 14th - it was a Friday - ceremony at 4 pm, reception at 6 pm and it was beautiful. I thought it was a great date too - almost like a Christmas party on top of the wedding. Quite honestly, it was the most festive reception I've ever been to, people were all in a happy, jolly mood and everyone had alot of fun.
It was also nice because it was a good excuse for most people to get out of work a little early on a Friday - much easier to do for alot of us during the holiday season!

When I first read your question my first feeling was the 5th but looking at your reasons the 13th because the church should be decorated on the 5th it may not be! 27th too close to Christmas 13 is also close but you still have time to prepare for it but 27th you have only 2 days to recover!

I personally like the 27th. It's a great excuse to bring family and friends together for the holidays.
Remember though that you will never make everyone happy, so make a decision based on what you two want to do as a couple because regardless of what date you choose people will come if they want to and will not come if they really don't want to.
