Gimp Photo Questions??

Ok 1.how do i close my path for some reason there not closing! when i delete the back ground it all goes!
2.is there away to make letter multicoloerd? 2 colors in 1 letter?3.i got a object cut out using the siccors but when i try to scale it it shrinks the whole page i just want the object shrunk...PLEASE HELPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to shrink the object first and then cut and paste it to the backround.
