Hey you, I don't have a PS3; YET! I will as soon as that price goes down in about another year. Just like I've had the first PS. Then the PS2 came out, the price was to high, I waited the amount of time needed and bought me one. I've had mine for since 2001. Like any PS console it is always best to put it on a shelf/area were it can do it's job properly. Don't put it on the rug or cloths or even a T.V., Radio, VCR, DVD player or anything else that radiates heat. By following this you can leave a PS on for a long time and it will not over heat. They are made that way. Let it breathI've left my PS2 on for nearly a month because I didn't want to shut it off, if I did then that ment I had to start all over from where the game has it's on saving point. Not the point where I was at; which was a little more the the games saving point. Keep it away from other sources of heat, even heaters. This is where that extra dust comes in and you don't blow that dust you vaccum it. If you leave the vents or the fan with dust it won't work properly and it will over heat to. If you trust me even though we don't know each other, you guys will be fine. I've had 2 PS consoles and I've never had a problem with niether over heating. I would never miss lead and that has a PS. If you don't trust me then just call sony up and they will tell you the same thing, O.K. guys. Happy Holidays. SUAVE!

The PS3 is not like the Xbox 360 and does not have hardware issues and overheating problems.

The only way the PS3 could EVER overheat is if it's in a very confined area for a few hours.

If the PS3 is placed in an open area and has plenty of air flow, it will NEVER overheat. The PS3 has a hardware failure rate less than 1%, so you don't really have to worry about hardware failure.

It's just a shame, people are so used to hearing about the problems with the Xbox 360 that they think that another console has the similiar problems. I've had my PS3 for about a year and it has never overheated.

I've had it on for 7 hours(I fell asleep LOL). Gave it a 1 hour break(It wasn't overheating though, I just wanted to make sure it stays that way). Then I played and downloaded demos for another 6 hours. I had my window cracked open, and my PS3 is right under it, so this may be why it didn't overheat. I haven't heard of it overheating before anyway so there should be nothing to worry about.

Keep it out of the entertainment center and don't have it backed up against a wall. Ours has been running for 24 hrs a day since march when we started participating in the standford university folding@home project and when we are not gaming it runs that program and we haven't had any issues

Do not buy a cooling device they void your warranty and screw up teh ps3s ability to cool itself...If you have carpet get a marble tile sample from a tile store and set it on that.
