My friend from England keeps her eggs in a room temperature pantry. I dont think this is safe. Is this some English thing or what?

Keep eggs as fresh as possible by storing them in the refrigerator in their original carton as soon as you get home. The carton protects the eggs from absorbing flavors and odors of other foods nearby, especially from strong-smelling foods like onions, cheese or cabbage. Keep raw foods (meats, poultry, and eggs) separate from cooked foods in the refrigerator.
Keep eggs refrigerated at 4° C (40 ° F) or lower at all times.

I have seen eggs stored not in the refrigerator but in the pantry and they are still perfectly fine for some time - it does stay fresh longer in the refrigerator. And this practice is not specific of england. Other countries in Europe & Asia do it as well. Not sure about other continents though.
But just a food for thought check these websites out:

Those rooms in England are alot cooler than here in this country and that is where the habits start. I would not keep eggs anywhere but the fridge in US because we keep our homes so much warmer, as a rulel
