If you are in line at the grocery and you notice the person directly behind you has only one or two items and you have quite a bit more than them, do you offer for them to go ahead of you?

Absolutely.

The same holds true for giving up seats, holding doors open, yielding the right of way when in traffic and so on.

It's called common courtesy...something I wish I could see more of.

Remember..."pay it forward"...return the favor.

Always!

I am a big believer in karma and the grocery store is an easy place to rack up some karma points. If im next in line and a another register opens I will offer it to the person behind me as well.

A little bit of kindness and coutesy from a stranger will go a long way in a persons day...It makes me feel good to know that I can so easily be a part of that!

I honestly can't think of a time when this has happened to me, but I would gladly do it. A month or so ago, somebody was kind enough to do this for me when all of the express lanes at the grocery store were closed (it must have been a shift change or something).

And I do know that people did this for my sister - even when she had more than a few items! - when she was pregnant. In fact, she almost burst into tears one time when a frail little old lady insisted she go in front of her. (She was touched by the woman's kindness, of course.)

Yes. And, I've had my place snatched from me by the person behind me with a full cart last week. I was in line and quickly dashed off to grab something. When I returned 2 minutes later, the person behind me was loading her groceries on the belt. I looked at the cashier and she llooked embarassed. The person who took my place would not even look at me. I was in a hurry but I did not make a big deal about it -- I guess she needed that spot more than me.

Go ahead and get mad at me again if you like but any civilized person would unless they didn't notice the person behind them having very few items to check. NOW if you were in a doctors waiting room and someone behind you was waiting and in pain would you trade places in the line with them or not?

I do this all the time, and suprisingly... most people do this for me too. The grocery store I usually use has a card to be scanned ( on of those things you just put on your keychain ) for certain specials? If the person in front of me dosen't happen to have one, I always offer mine so they can get the discounted price also.

Yes I do! I feel great when that is done for me so I like helping anyone else in that situation. I also will let a mom go ahead if she has cranky little ones as I have been there too and I know you feel embarrassed and want outta that store so much! It's such a small gesture to help someone and you really feel good all over!

In this day and age no. They make self checkouts and express lanes for a reason. They can use them. However if it's at a 7-11 or gas station or somewhere similar then yes.

I do... by the time im done putting everything on the counter they could be done and gone. I really appreciate when people do it for me. Some people are just rude though. I actually had lady cut in foront of my with a full cart when i had my daughter who was a baby and all i need was diapers and wipes....hum they could be hint. She was an old woman too. Who has the ride of way there?? an old woman or a mother and a child? I hate how some people with certain conditions use it to their advantage and they expect special treament. Thing is the woman was rude as hell. its like whatever lady when my daughter is crying and it annoys you.... take your time please.
