For those who've fallen for the moon god baloney, lol, this is for you:
Do you believe that Muslims worship a moon god because of the crescent moon that has come to symbolize Islam? If so, why then didn't Muhammad (saws) and his followers make use of the crescent? Why did it take until the Ottoman empire before Muslims used the crescent as a religious symbol?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crescent
Do you believe that Muslims worship a moon god because Islamic months go by the lunar calendar? If so, then does that mean you believe Jews also worship a moon god?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_calendar#Importance_of_Lunar_Months
Do you believe Muslims worship a moon god because a Christian missionary wanted to make a distinction between the names "Allah" and "God"?

Please, if you want to hate Islam, at least do so on reliable information, lol!

Geezah, lol! Sorry you have to go through that!
A Muslim can't get uppity if s/he knows his/her religion. It's not that people attempt to disprove the religion, it's that so many people are either so ignorant about it and will believe any hunk of baloney as long as it's somewhat anti-Islam, and that no matter how many times you try to tell them, or how much evidence you show them that they're not right, they ignore and continue to spread their own ignorance to others. It's repetitive, and just for an example, we're STILL fighting to dispel the myth that Islam was spread by the sword long after the Crusaders started it to gain support for their bloodbath.
I guess I should just let things go, but nothing irks me more than total and voluntary ignorance...

Grandfather, lol, you're a prime example of the people I mention who will believe anything as long as it's somewhat anti-Islamic. You believe this article because it says "archaeology provides irrefutable evidence," and that's all the evidence you need to believe it?

YUSUFALI: We have put yokes round their necks right up to their chins, so that their heads are forced up (and they cannot see).
PICKTHAL: Lo! We have put on their necks carcans reaching unto the chins, so that they are made stiff-necked.
SHAKIR: Surely We have placed chains on their necks, and these reach up to their chins, so they have their heads raised aloft.
036.009
YUSUFALI: And We have put a bar in front of them and a bar behind them, and further, We have covered them up; so that they cannot see.
PICKTHAL: And We have set a bar before them and a bar behind them, and (thus) have covered them so that they see not.
SHAKIR: And We have made before them a barrier and a barrier behind them, then We have covered them over so that they do not see.
036.010
YUSUFALI: The same is it to them whether thou admonish them or thou do not admonish them: they will not believe.
PICKTHAL: Whether thou warn them or thou warn them not, it is alike for them, for they believe not.
SHAKIR: And it is alike to them whether you warn them or warn them not: they do not believe.

Wikipedia is not always a good source for compiling great information so I didn't read it.
The truth is, the Moon God was popular among Arabs before Mohammad's day. The prophet Mohammad made it clear that there was only one God 'Allah' and destroyed the many idols that Arabs formerly worshiped.
Everyone knows that Muslims do not worship a moon God just like Christians do not worship a Sun God.
Choosing the crescent Moon as a symbol was not a religious thing..it was mostly traditional which has nothing to do with Islam. There are traces of tradition and customs within every religion. It's normal.

Salaam Alaykum,
Nonsense..I hope you succeeded I am so glad. Some of my favorite potato chips have a crescent which very few companies do to signify the product is halal and I applaud them for this action as so many store products have the K
for Kosher or a U. I know that was not your point but I don't understand those accustations as have been clearly pointed out have no relevance in terms of us worshipping any idol especially a small part of the entire universe that was the creation of Allah SWT. Lord of all Universe.

Who cares? I mean really, who cares? What I don't like is the fact they are killing people. And each other, that little boy yusuff with his face melted off. Was that really helping anyones cause? the hundreds who get blown up each day and then you come on here and say, "they are not listening, it is like the blind leading the blind."
What is the message you want to give us?
That if we convert you will stop the blood shed? when it is true your own people or people in that religion already is the ones killing each other. More muslims are killed by other muslims. So how is our converting going to stop the blood shed?
I really want to know, what do you want from us?
What do you want us to say? Islam is not a moon god?
Fine it is not a moon God. Now are you happy?

Christians put the idol of Jesus(PBUH) before them & start worshiping as God. they think that we also worship moon god, which is not true. this is not the case with Muslims.
These arrogant people won't understand Islam. Only if Allah gives Hidayath to these arrogant poeple, they will come to realise the truth...

Anybody who takes the time to read the basics of Islam knows that the religion has nothing to do with moon worship.
What I want to know is: why to Muslims get so defensive over the alleged origins of the culture, in and of itself. How come I always hear Muslims saying "No, no, it never happened that way" and not "Even if it did, it doesn't matter; we know what we're practicing NOW."

I don't care what they believe or whether their god is the moon or not. I believe in freedom of religion. I will respect your right to any religion you want to believe.
But when the people in that religion turns violent and starts killing others then they should be stopped.
I believe that all muslims should live in a muslim country and not immigrate to other countrys. That way they can be happy under sharika law. I also believe that all other countrys should be out of the middle east and leave those people alone.

"belief" has nothing to do with it. it's a demonstrable fact that Allah *was* a moon god, part of a pantheon, before he got into monotheism
[edit] "... archaeology provides irrefutable evidence that Allah, far from being the biblical God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, was actually the pre-Islamic pagan moon-god. Indeed, it is an established archaeological fact that worship of the moon-god was the main religion of the ancient Middle East."
[2nd edit] i don't mean to malign any person or religion or deity. in fact i could also point out that El (who became YHVH) was part of the Sumerian pantheon, god of mountains, thunder, and plagues, before *he* got into monotheism. but the question was about Allah =)

dearest, it is like banging your head upon the wall made of brick trying to talk to these people. Ever hear of that saying: "the blind leading the blind"?
This is it in action.
The one thing I think is positive in all this is that the internet can be used as a tool to dissipate these misconceptions. At least they've heard it. It's up to them now whether they will decide to love or to hate.
Good luck.
