i spoke to the bride to be - and she advised she definitely doesnt want anyone wearing WHITE and would prefer people not to wear black but the men in suits will be wearing black suits so she said if women already have black dresses and dont want to buy anything else then she doesn't care she isn't fussed on the black rule just the white. i only have a black formal dress, obviously if i can find something else i will buy it but at the moment (i am picky) not looking good and got 4 weeks to go. firstly, can anyone show me any links with some dresses of what women can wear "formal" to a wedding and also are traditionally known as "cocktail" dresses good enough to wear to a formal wedding?

I suggest that you wear the formal dress you already have rather than going an buying something you might not have occasion to use in the future. Formal dresses, as you know, are not cheap. Dress up your black dress with some nice silver or gold jewelry (doesn't have to be real silver or gold) and some good looking comfortable shoes.

Black dresses are absolutely appropriate for formal weddings, but if you want to stand out choose a different color. Just try to think of anything you would wear to something like a Christmas party. Not a prom dress...should probably be knee-length, but dressier than a dress you would wear to work. BTW, it's not her rule about the white dress...you should NEVER wear a white dress to a wedding unless you're the bride!!!!

If you cant find a new dress, why do you buy some new accessories to make the new dress look a million times better. I would wear either a pearl or diamond necklace and then matching earrings, and then either a red or metallic clutch and matching pumps or heels. I think red or yellow heels and accessories and a clutch bag would be appropriate and make you stand out in a crowd. I would also try going to department stores like JcPenny, Kohls, Macys, and Dillards, to try and find something more appropriate then black since thats what the bride wants.

I would wear a pair of NICE dark wash or black jeans (slacks if you feel uncomfortable in nice jeans) cute boots and a resort casual top (not a t-shirt, perhaps a polo or patterned top). You could also wear a more casual cotton dress with tights underneath. Since it will be chilly, wear a nice cardigan or sweater. It would probably be a safe bet if you dressed the same as you would for a nice date. And while I understand that you can't call her, couldn't you email her or ask another friend/family member who is attending?

sadly, most formal dresses are black. usally the dication is whether or not the wedding is formal, black-tie only, casual, ect...the bride usually doesn't dictate the color the women have to wear. women with sense wouldn't wear a white dress to a wedding..that is just tacky. if you have a formal black dress..go for it. if not...just make sure you don't purchase a tacking fushia dress (trust me, I have seen some women who in trying not to wear a black dress find a tacky prom dress in a crazy color.)

its a big NO NO to wear white to any wedding unless you are requested to do so...i got in a huge fight w/ my mom bc she bought my sister a white dress for her for my wedding...she was the maid of honor...it was nasty...its very disrespectful...but you might want to wear a brown dress if she doesn't want you to wear black...there are many shades of brown you can choose

Hi. Black is PERFECTLY FINE to wear. Don't go out and buy a new dress, unless of course, you want to!
