My mom has non-hodgkins lymphoma and she just completed her first 6 months of treatment. She went for an appointment to get a cat-scan to see what the progress was. While waiting in the waiting room she was greeted by a financial director from the hospital and my mom was told that she was in too much debt to the hospital to get any more services.

So she was sent away.

She still has her port and they wont even flush it for her so im also concerned about that getting infected. She doesnt have any health insurance and Im not quite sure what paper work she has already filled out through different associations. Im just brain storming, looking for any ideas of people or oganizations that I might be able to contact for grants for cancer patients.

If you have been in a simular situation I am very interested in finding out what you did to get the care that you needed when you didnt the money to get it.

Thank you,
Julie

I definitely agree to the answers that were put you.. And also sif these does help try the Patient Advocate, patientadvocacy.org if they can help you. Oh and maybe google cancer patient financial ( and maybe put uninsured too)aid and see if the site can do a search for you and good luck to you. And if you have children you can do a scholarship search for your kids too. Good luck to you and your family.
P.S. try www.aacr.org. Hopefully that may help you steer in the direction you need. Also find a hospital that will flush you. From what my daughter says. it's uncomfortable. Get it flushed right away. And see if you can get medicaid or an equal in your state.

Besides the American Cancer Society there is also the Lymphoma and Leukemia Foundation that also might be able to assist her. She should also contact the state Medicaid department. They won't pay for past bills, but they will pay for future bills. They can also assign your mother a social/case worker who can assist with other organizations/referrals in your area.

Contact your senator and representative in your area. They need to know that there is such a need for services and people are not be taken care of. And don't let them silence you.
Contact cancer support groups in your area, they will know if there is any other support available.

Good luck
