Just about everybody is hiring FA's now, so take your pick and apply at your top choices first. Do NOT go to skybus, they are a startup, very very low cost airline, and make their flight attendants act like salesmen during the flight. Besides that, if you can get on at a major carrier, your flight benefits will be better, however if you go to a regional carrier, your schedule will improve quicker. At my current airline we are hiring flight attendants like crazy. The pay for flight attendants is not great. It can be a job with a semi flexible schedule (no 9-5 crap).

Apply to a major airline, they have all the training facilities and will train you. If you undergo training in California you will be based for an airline that has bases or hubs in America so you wont be working for one in Europe. But if you say apply for British Airways you will get trained in London and be based in London.

probably the easiest way would be to get on with one of the low cost, upstart carriers....SkyBus just put out an open hiring call here in Greensboro NC to staff the flights going out of their new hub here that goes into ops Jan 15 and they still are hiring....

can't help you much with west coast ops but I know that companies like mesa air, skybus, allegient, chataqua air, air wisconsin, mid-states, any of the smaller regional companies will be easier than trying to get on with a major and then take that experience to get you to the majors and the higher paying gigs....the training should translate to the UK but I'm not sure about other european countries

The only flight attendant I knoe got her job by calling her local airport. I think they referred her on from there. You could always get your pilots license.
