I would pick the Marlin Model 60. Add a quality scope and it's a tack driver. The only downside in my opinion is that the Model 60 uses a tubular magazine. Aside from that, its a great gun for its price.
The advantage of the 10/22 is the detachable magazines and tons of accessories. I have never had too much interest to add a bunch of stuff to my gun, but if you like to, then the 10/22 is just what you are looking for.

Both are good firearms. The Marlin with it's longer barrel does give an edge to distance shooting, but the mag tube is akward for some people to get used to for loading. I like it because I can use speed loaders and really reload quickly. The ruger can be tricled out more, and upgraded to a better barrel for longer distance, it takes a magazine which makes reloading quick, and it has many times more after market accesories than does the marlin. I have owned several of both rifles, but I lean a little more to the Marling if I'm not planning on spending more money to upgrade it. In fact, with one for myself, my wife and each of my kids, plus a couple extra for "loaners" for guest shooters, I have 7 of the marlins in my gunsafe, and only 2 Rugers.

I have both and each has a place, the trigger on the marlin is light years better then the ruger so it gets the nod for long range work but the ruger seems to work better for woods hunting. If you are into buying tons of accy's get the ruger but if you want one to use the marlin is every bit as good and usually cheaper.

Depends. For all around the 10/22, for long shots the Marlin 60.
I have a few of both, can't have too much of a good thing you know. :)

10/22, mainly for the magazine which no other rifle but Ruger has and the ability to modify systems easily.

Since I already have one of each, I'll take a Savage model 29. The pump action cycles quickly and easily when you have a misfire and feeds shorts, longs, and long rifle rounds.

10/22 you can turn it into a long range pistol or a tack driving bench rifle or just about anything else your heart desires.
