If he made the Earth, animals and the meadows, why not go into the country, stand in the middle of the field and say thank you as opposed to going to a dark damp church that rattle the collection plate in your face. I just don't get it.

There is no right or wrong place to speak to God, but there may be certain places where it's easier to focus your mind and thoughts.

God appreciates your thanks; as a past scoutmaster, I participated in or led many services in the country. If you believe that God's works can be helped by providing assistance for people in a church, some goodies in the collection plate are certainly welcome. And it isn't too late to earmark some money to those Salvation Army folks who stood out in the damp ringing bells at shops before Christmas.

Church is just a building. You can thank God anywhere, if you feel closest to Him there then believe me He'll be there. I like to pray in the woods when I walk the dog. Even Jesus said go into your room and pray(ie a quiet place). You are dead right my friend go for the field.

Some people just like to pray with others. It makes them feel better to go to a designated place every week, and pray with other people. I don't go to church because I believe that you can pray anywhere you want to, anytime you want to, and talk to God as often as you like, not just when the church doors are open! These houses of worship all want money just to keep it going and to pay for the upkeep. I'm sure God doesn't care where we pray. That's just my opinion.

For some the Great and Holy spirit dwells within and they spend time introspectively, and find their peace there.
For others his spirit is found in good company, and they thrive and prosper spiritually in good company.
The religous find their peace communing in a house of God. The very atmosphere and ambience, persons gathered in his rememberance, all with a collective spiritual love and focused upon God. As long as your mind is clear and focussed it can be an incredibly uplifting and soul searching and moving experience.

As in all matters, your outlook, approach, mood determines what you gain from whichever scenario.

Be Loved.

Well anywhere really. Often in my car when I'm on my way to work. Or when looking out my window over the fields. In the bath as well. Anywhere really.
