Invest in a crock-pot and then add to the pot 1/2 cup red wine stew meat rolled in flour then carrots, peas, pearl onions, Lawry's stew mix one cup water, mushrooms, one can tomato's and one can drained potato's. Cook on high four hours or low for eight.
The great thing is no need to soak meat overnight the wine takes care of that and oh so yummy!

i usually put in meat, (usually stewing steak),carrots, onion, parsnips, swede, potatoes, sometimes leek, sometimes abit of celeriac, always add butternut squash it thickens it up and has an amazing taste, i also put in some sweet potatoes too they also thicken up the stew and have a lovely taste, they are all available from your local supermarket, the beauty with stew is you can add whatever you want to it, you can try all different ingredients and see which ones you love the best. hopes this helps.

I put a stalk of chopped up celery in also. And about 1/4 cup catsup, garlic, pepper, and I use Au Jus gravy mix to really spruce it up. The gravy is excellent. None of this has to be soaked overnight. Just brown the meat, all the other ingredients, cook for about two hours, stirring occasionally. Good stuff.

Stew usually lasts about 2-3 days in our house so each day I add other ingredients to make it taste a bit different. Sometimes a tin of soup....minestrone, mulligatawny or vegetable. Or I'll add a casserole mix to change the flavour.....But my husband says my dumplings are the best!

I love Parsnips and Turnip or Rutabega in a stew. Swede is not so common in the US, but it's good. Red wine is nice, bay leaf, I like Rosemary with beef, sage and thyme with chicken.

Stewed tomatoes, with juice. Celery, dried thyme, dried rosemary, red wine, dried marjoram, and frozen green peas, thawed.
Hope this helped a little bit.

Peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, parsnips, leeks, swede, turnip, celery, almost anything you have lying in the drawers in the fridge!
Try adding vinegar (a few splashes) to beef casserole for taste - also Lea and Perrins sauce works well too.
