No mom and pups should not be outside in 34 degree temps at all. The pups are way to young to be outside at all. Heat lamp or not. They need to be inside with mom.

find a place inside for her and the pups.

I know you mean well, or you wouldn't bother to ask, but you should never breed a dog unless you have a responsible plan before doing so. If your dog accidently became pregnant you can call your local humane society. They will understand and most likely help you by taking the dogs. Please keep the dogs inside, including the mother, until you have had her checked by a vet. Whelping puppies is not something just anyone should do. A responsible breeder is someone who:
-can afford indoor kennels for his stock
-proper ventilation, heating, and cooling
-has time to exercise his dogs
-has the money to feed his dogs
-can afford medical expenses
-belongs to a breed club
-shows his stock
-is akc registered
-etc................................................................
These are just a few of the many fundamentals required by a responsible breeder. If you aren't willing to invest your time and money (if you are in it just for the money) then you are a Puppy Mill and you should be ashamed. Cheap dogs are often a sign of a Puppy Mill. It is recommended that you go to a breeder who breeds one kind of dog. Do not buy from pet stores...they charge just as much or more than responsible breesers only pet stores get a lot of there dogs from puppy mills. Unless you are trying to better the breed (which means you are spending a lot of money to buy a dog from a top litter to breed with another dog from a top litter) then you only need to visit your local dog shelter to see why the world would do better with laws restricting the practice of dog breeding (or any breeding of animals for that matter).

Despite what bluebonnet says, those puppies should not be outside -- unless you are prepared to lose some of them.

Puppies that young cannot regulate their body temperature, and must rely on their mother *completely* to keep them warm. If there are too many of them, some of them will necessarily be pushed aside, and they will likely freeze.

Leaving a heating lamp on in a dog house is asking for trouble. Fire hazard, sure, but you can also fry the mother/puppies in an enclosed space.

I have a breed designed to live in subarctic temperatures, and I still don't whelp my puppies outside. It's not about "acclimating to the temperature" -- it's about the biological and physical inability of a newborn puppy to do so!

Those puppies should be indoors.

I WOULD NOT PUT THEM OUTSIDE. too dangerous. Leave them inside for a couple of weeks. How would you like being in 34 degree temperature and try to take care of a bunch of infants Block off an area when you can put down some towel or old blankets and keep them inside. After they get older, take them out for periods of time and let them play and get used to it and eventually, with proper insulation and some warming lights or heating pads you can try them outside.

If you are going to be a pet owner there are conditions that have to be addressed. And putting puppies outside in that temperature is just not acceptable.

The joy you will have watching them grown will be worth having them inside for a few weeks.

Newborn pups can not maintain their own body temperatures until at least 10 days old. If you put them outside in 34 degree temperature you will have dead puppies in the morning. I'm amazed they survived at all. Your poor lab must be terrified of losing them.
Heat lamps are dangerous and are only used IN ADDITION to the warmth of the whelping box which should be in a very warm, cozy, clean and safe home!!!

Another uneducated fool bringing more unwanted puppies into an already overpopulated world.

Is this a joke?

You have a 2 year old outdoor lab that you bred and now you want to stick the 24 hour old puppies outside in nearly freezing weather?

Methinks I smell a troll.

But just in case,

NO, the puppies SHOULD NOT go outside.

Bring them to someone with lab rescue, including the mother dog, so that they don't have to live like a puppy mill!

All of the backyard breeders on here should be ashamed. Go to the humane society, go look on Petfinder. Why would you keep doing this. Do you get kicks out of seeing innocent animals have to die. When will you get a clue. Do you have a heart? Please spay/neuter your animals.

Reputable breeders test their dogs and do not have tons of littler a year. They know what they are doing and they do whats best for the breed. Please let them do the breeding. Oh and they keep their puppies and mom inside in a whelping box. They also know whether or not to assist mom with feeding and how to care for mom. Would you let some redneck down the street deliver your baby and care for you and the baby????

I rest my case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about what you are doing.. Just go walk around the Humane society for about 30 minutes. Or better yet walk a dog or two. Oh I forgot you obviously don't care.

IF you LOVE animals please SPAY and NEUTER yours!!!!!!!!!!!

And to answer your question NO they should be in the house where it is warm. Maybe you should sleep in the dog house tonight to see if it is warm enough!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heating lamps tend to get too hot and cause fires or burn puppies. They should be inside or in a warm building that is heated. Puppies can't control their body temperature and can easily die from the getting too cold. They also need to be in a place where they can't get so far from mom that they can't make it back to her. You really should have been planning a place for them sooner.
