We go every year to Eleuthera in the Bahamas and rent a house on a beach. Very private and not terribly expensive. Never even see a footprint in the sand that is not ours.
Just got back from Turks and Caicos islands in the British West Indies. Most beautiful island I've ever seen. A little more expensive and more people. Water is excellent and you can rent a nice condo and cook your own food. But the food is about 4 times as expensive as the states. Take one suitcase full of dry food and snacks. That's easy to do and customs could care less. we generally take an ice chest full of steaks. But you cannot use dry ice. Weather is such a factor and the caribbean is full of great places (not Jamaica).
